Wow.....out of the frying pan into the fire!

Questions (2):

1.On the 300tdi, it was introduced in the 1994 models, so production of them had to start in 1993 at some time, at least fall if not summer. Any one have data (hard, like documentation of some sort)?

2. Ford reportedly had the 300tdi federalized and then changed its mind. Anyone have formal data to prove this factoid?

Thanks.

Jeff

Looking into swapping the old 2.5td/LT77/LT230 in my '87 ROW 90 for a 300tdi/Ashcroft R380/Ashcroft 1.2 T-case. Is this a good set up or will my money be better spent elsewhere?

Thoughts, comments, suggestions are very welcome at this point
Perfect set up.
200 as well, but the choice is totally yours. I like the 200 cz of the v belt. The ashcroft stuff is really nice. I ended up just ordering a rebuild kit for my XC and used their updated cross shaft in it. Beautiful.

Just depends on what you're using it for. I'd choose a 300tdi over a V8 in a heartbeat. I like V8's but it wouldn't be my first choice for an overlanding trip for example. I also think diesels are far superior off road (torque, fuel economy, no overheating when idling for extended periods of time, etc).

The list of potential issues that can happen to a 300tdi does not mean they will all happen to you. If maintenance routines are followed none of them should. I have 80K miles on mine and zero issues so far.

I've had 5 Rover V8s before... and I'd choose one over a 300 TDI in a heartbeat.

BUT when I think V8 swap I don't think Rover. I think SBC. :)

While you're talking engines, just saw that RovahFarm has new 300tdis in stock right now, $7500.
