I recently purchased a 1997 NAS Defender And have noticed a fair amount of wind noise when I drive over 40mph (especially on windy days). Is this common from the outside roll bar, or is there something else it could be?

I hear you. I have an old Santana as well, but that doesn’t have a “whistle“ like this (although it’s tough to hear anything in that over the sound of the diesel). I was more curious to see If anyone had any specific experience with it on the NAS defender because of the roll bar. I can try to record the noise and post if I can get a good video. Thanks.

I wouldn’t label the wind noise as a whistle, though cutting corners when securing the roof can cause all sorts of noises to test one’s sanity. My experiences with whistling noises mostly turned out to be loose bolts, and made themselves evident by increasing when the gas was applied.

Pretty common to get a whistling noise from vacuum leaks, often from valve covers who's bolts are loose or gaskets are done. But as ARosen points out, these are usually RPM dependent, and can often be heard at a standstill/idle..

I have a wind noise in my NAS '97 SW around the bulkhead on the passenger side specifically. It's been driving me nuts for years. Same kinda symptoms. I'm actually thinking it's a seal between the bulkhead and the heater core...am I way off the mark here guys?
