Roamerdrive specific Questions

Morning all. I did some searching about Roamer drive overdrive and have talked a bit with them but wanted to flush out what my specific desires and focus of using this is before ordering. FWIW I have a 110 with a 200TDI and a LT77 trans with the stock T case. I did put 33" tires on this thing.

I am not looking to necessarily improve fuel economy, nor am I totally worried about noise. I am looking to improve highway and interstate speeds on this truck. I do not have an rpm gauge so I am really clueless on what RPM's I have been running to not get killed by 18 wheelers. I just know I am not as fast as I would like to be. If I could hit 70-75 that would be so great. BTW. I am in TX so I am not really driving in Mountains with this thing very often. Anyone have any thoughts on if this is the right application for me and a roamerdrive?

If you have the stock 200TDI gearbox and transfer case, 0.77:1 5th and 1.41 high range. 70 - 75 should be not a problem. If you have something else, that might make a difference. The Roamerdrive won't help you go faster, but it will help with noise and fuel consumption a bit.

If you are not running out of engine speed, then you have a power issue that needs to be addressed. Do you have any other mods like a roof rack that could be robbing power?

I need to get my phone going and do just that. I have actaully been driving on the sound of the engine revs as of now. This motor has been somewhat gone through so I am sort of confident in the core of it. The injector pumps, turbo's etc are different stories at this time so we will see.

I have a 110 with 200tdi and had a roamerdrive installed. Totally agree it won’t make your truck go any faster but does make it quieter( if you can use that term in a defender) as you are cruising at lower rpm’s. One advantage of the roamerdrive is that you can use it with any gear, it’s not just an overdrive. Can be nice at certain city driving speeds where you can split between gears and decrease rpm’s/noise.

So I am not at all trying to suggest this to be argumentative or antagonistic, but this was my reasoning, and I am either slow or dense... So the idea of this overdrive is to drop the rpms of the motor at a certain speed, thus reducing fuel consumption and engine rev noise. It would stand to reason that if I am at 3000 rpm(just throwing in a reasonable number) and running 70, then I could be drop into overdrive and run at 3000 and increase my speed by 25%. Am I wrong about that?? BUT for those that are suggesting maybe my truck is not running right, a EGT/Boost gauge is on order, and a RPM gauge is on order also. If my truck is not running right then thats a much better use of $$.

Well, it should be running "right", yes.

But I'll throw this out there:

My BMW has an instant fuel economy gage. And if I'm cruising on the highway in 4th gear, and then shift up to 5th, at the same speed, I see no change in instant fuel economy. Yes, the revs come down of course, but fuel savings is not significant.

Keeping tires properly aired for the load and all other systems working properly will give the best economy. Also driving as if there is an egg under your right foot helps.

Thank you Red90. That makes since. I actually do not have any racks or additional things that might impact wind, BUT I really have no idea what was done to this truck in Spain which is where it originated. I think I have a factory trans and T-case, but I have no way of knowing if that all got messed with before it came this way. I have a boost and EGT gauge, as well as an RPM gauge on the way. We will see from there.

Great post here.
I am content a Roamerdrive.
I have a 300tdi R380 LT230
it is making me question if I am having a power-related issue. I drive mine around 63mph and it can get to 70-75 but seems like it’s screaming (no tachometer) and takes a bit of time.

i will prioritise gauges to get more info. I’ll probably go with SingleViu gauges except for tachometer, where I will search for a Vision Black as SingleViu doesn’t have an analog tachometer method for “w” wire on alternator.
