A good question - here's what we use and the history.......

The prototype kit used two Britpart mountings which were too hard (as you found). Following Glencoyne's advice we ordered two from Bearmach which were better but not perfect. I approached a UK engine mounting manufacturer but they wanted telephone numbers and a minimum order batch of 100! So we did our own development using all sorts of stock mountings. In the end, we found that a stock Def mounting on the rhs and a stock petrol Series 111 mounting on the left did the trick. Our special rhs engine mounting (see our website) preloads the mounting and that's solved the problem.
I think @rdavisinva was referring to the rubber/poly section of the mount.
So you are using the "hockey puck" style of mounts?

Yes, we're supplying the "hockey pucks"- they work very well and they are an easily sourced part should you need to change them in the future.

We've tried to use generic parts where possible - that way you can buy parts locally.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for that - a good point about the motor. I've spoken to Kevin Tait (Modern Classic 4x4 - Texas). He seems like a good guy and has 300tdi engines on eBay. The age old problem is logistics from here - there are good builders this side of the pond but the cost to get one over to the States (and the hassle) makes it better to have them supplied in America.

So, in your opinion do you still think that the 300tdi is a good alternative?

Thanks again.
Agreed on the motor as well. I think the kit is a good idea but now I need to source a motor as well and somebody to help install

Hello - It seems that I stupidly opened another thread for the conversion kit, so there are two running at the same time. If there's a way of merging them into one, maybe that would be better?

Because of the 2.5NA motor, your Tithonus would be perfect for a transformation, in fact there's one running in France already.

Have you tried Kevin Tait for a motor (modernclassic4x4.com) - he also posts on eBay (300tdi engines Austin TX).

For installation - The kit is designed as a DIY package and the Instruction Manual is very comprehensive with lots of photos. A couple of 'hands on' guys used to working on their Land Rovers could easily do the job. Anyone on the forum living close by - maybe?

I used to work in St. Louis years ago..............

I've shoved a 300TDI/R380, LS/6L80, and a 4.6 Rover EFI V8/ZF autobox into Tithonus trucks. None of it is very hard but does take time if you want it "balanced" in the end.

DM if you have want help on sourcing stuff or install.

Seems to me that the USA market is gaga for big block conversions, whereas UK and ROW market value the 300 Tdi higher...
Purely my opinion but I think it's a couple things:
1. it's still difficult sourcing a 300 here. There are a lot of sketch sellers and most people, like me, don't want to risk getting a turd.
2. The reason people will drop an LS into damn near anything here is because they are cheap, plentiful, make as much easy power as you want and the biggest factor, it is really easy to find an expert to work on them if needed.

I have a S3 and I went with ordering a rebuilt 2.25l/2.5l na from Roland at ACR. It was cheaper and easier than trying to rebuild it myself and a LOT cheaper and easier than finding anyone reputable in the states to even work on the 2.25l. It was also a lot more stress free than trying to find a 200 or 300 to drop in.
