My '95 D90 ST didn't come with an owner's manual. Hope I haven't overlooked a thread somewhere, because I've done several searches and looked at the FAQ's, and I can't seem to find a consistent answer to these questions:

1. Does the manual transmission on a '95 call for gear oil or ATF?
2. What weight of either?
3. It looks like the t-case calls for gear oil right?
4. What weight for this?

My confusion stems from threads where some people said they were using gear oil in the tranny and others where people said they were using ATF. Due to the huge difference in viscosities between the two, I wanted to make sure I changed out to the proper stuff (in both boxes)

Thanks in advance for any clarification on these issues.........

REDLINE MTL in your gearbox!!! any cheap 90 weight in your transfer case as it will probally leak out.

Do a search for Redline MTL, its the best.

MTF94 for Transmission, synthetic 75W90 for Transfer case.

No gear lube, you have to use MTL, which although speced as a gear lube, is thinner than normal gear lube. The original spec was ATF, but rover updated it for the rest of the world to Texaco MTF which is nearly identical to redline MTL.

To headdamage, I would use straight synthetic AFT for those temperatures, but in 10 degrees F MTL was fine after a minute or two so I think you would be ok.

Tranny holds between 2 and 3 quarts. Like 2.5 or 2.7 something like that.

I've used Red Line products before (not MTL, but their engine oils and gear lubes), and I've been very pleased.

Thanks for the specs./capacity. I'll order some MTL right now.......

Ok, I was just curious if anybody had used the Amsoil product. It and the Redline MTL are both available nearby.

I got some Redline this morning.

thats cuz you don't know anybetter sorry to say! they are all a very good product

Way to be a self-righteous dick. Not only is that a pretty bullshit call on your part, but could you find a more arrogant and condescending way to phrase it? What would you know of my experiences? I went through 3 (yes, that`s right, 3) R380 transmissions in my 1995 D90 due to BTS Transmissions in Campbell, Ca trying all forms of ATFs (per Land Rovers recommendations), gear oils (per the 2 transmission rebuilders recommendations) and 2 other MTFs before getting it right and using the only fluid that did not cause issues with the synchros, which was Redline MTF, which was the third MTF we tried. RP and Amsoil MTFs worked decently well, but were not nearly as smooth feeling, and were far rougher while running through the gears. I understand that it varies to a certain degree based on climate and driving style, but I swear by Redline, and that`s that, so keep doggin on me buddy.

On that note, stay away from BTS Transmission in Campbell, California.

Follow-up Post:

I neglected to mention too, that there was far more brass in the fluid after draining the Amsoil and RP than there was after draining the Redline.

Ya I could have said your a dumb ****!
now there's some science
Calling my a dumb **** while using "your" instead of "you`re" kind of negates your comment, and with the way you phrased it to begin with, you may as well have just said that in the first place. Fuckin prick.

Pickin on my grammer is a layup!
What is there for me not know? I tried RP, Amsoil and Redline and the smoothest MTL with the least brass in it when drained was Redline..... So tell me, what else do I need to know? Seriously? Shool me
