Wolf air box intake vs Donaldson air box

The odd thing about the wolf air intake is that it's plumbed to the heater box with a parallel second line for the breather lines. At least this was my experience on the one Wolf truck I imported for a friend. The engine air intake were via the two side vents. I'm perplexed as to why the heater box would need a snorkel and prioritized over the engine for filtration.
