Transfer Box Diff Lock Question

95 RRC, which I refitted with a 300tdi and Auto transmission.

While on the beach today, only had front wheel drive. Luckily the front axle got me back to solid roads!

I was unaware of the manual diff lock feature on my transfer box at the time, so I did not attempt to utilize that feature. Never needed it before and I have this truck on the beach almost weekly for three years.
Any ideas where to begin diagnosing the problem? I have had this truck in some deep sand and never had any issues until today. No strange noises or vibrations.

When I purchased the 300tdi and trans, I was told it had been removed from a 94 Disco, but I cannot be sure. I also cannot verify what type of trans and tranfer case I have, so any help with identifying them would also be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

I finally hooked up a light to the difflock light switch. Screwed the sender all the way in, light comes on. Backed it off just until the light went off, then one-half turn out. Engaged the difflock with lever, no light. I "encouraged" the actuator arm with a little leverage from underneath, still no light.
There are no strange noises from the transfer box. Truck drives fine.
Are there any further fixes I can try before dropping the box for a rebuild?

I thought the procedure was put it in difflock, screw in the switch until the light turns on, turn the switch another another half turn, then tighten the lock nut.

If you're doing that and still having problems, you may need to replace the switch. Order genuine Land Rover; I ordered the cheap Britpart one and it didn't work.
