Camshaft and timing recommendations

Looking for camshaft and timing set recommendations for an engine I'm doing a small rebuild on.

The engine: a 4.6 14CUX
Small rebuild. I say this because I had planned on doing a full rebuild but I was shocked by how clean the engine was when I pulled the valve covers and valley pan. The previous owner stated it had been "rebuilt" shortly before he sold it to me, but not to what extent. Engine came from a running vehicle with no issues.

I currently have a new Crower 50229 camshaft, but am open to options for something different, keeping in mind its a 4.6 14CUX.

I also currently have a new Cloyes C-3003K timing set. But I am considering the Cloyes 9-1132 double roller set, or something else.

Persuade me one way or the other. :D

230 in my 3.9 229 in a 4.2

I beleive i used a pro gear timing set because thats what Mark at D&D fab said to use. He suggested the double roller was a waste of money for the application so I took his advice. It seems that alot of folks are using the cloyes double roller, anything is an improvement over the factory nylon pulley. That being said the timing set in 4.2 had accumulated 215k miles when it was replaced.

I did a 230 in my 3.9 it may be a bit much without proper efi tuning, 229 in a 4.2 really woke it up. The 4.2 was completely worn out and rebuilt at the time of install etc. Id checm on the TVR forums when i buy my next cam.

Thanks! How do you mean "too much"? I do have a 4.6 chip to install in the 14CUX ECU.

I think most of you know I have run both of the 50227 and 50229 cams. I am a strong proponent of the 50227. I literally switched back to the 50227 after 1000 miles or so of the 50229 which is a major PITA to do, so you can gather how strongly I feel about that. The power off idle is better, the overall power seemed to be the same ish, the gas mileage was the same ish...

That's interesting, as Mark at D&D Fabrication recommends the 229 for a stock 3.9/4.0

Specifically, why did find the 229 to be a "major PITA"?
