Since owning my Defender, I've never used the a/c. A friend told me that the compressor is not working. Could it be a fuse? What type of mechanical defects should I look for?

Yes, it could be a fuse. When you turn on your ac, does the compressor pulley turn? Is the system fully charged? Most good garages will inspect the major components for free then go from there. Do some google research and learn the major components; it’s not Rover science.
