Wing Side Signal Repeater Lights

Went through my manual and a quick internet search, and I can't seem to find any reference to how to get these wing/side signal lights/lenses out to replace bulbs, check wiring etc on a 1988 Defender (Land Rover 90 - ROW version). It has to be pretty simple, but I would rather not break or scratch anything so a bit of insight would be much appreciated! :confused

Bulb holder twists out from the inside. Half turn or so then pull.

OK, but from inside the wing, I cannot get to the rear of the fixture. It is blocked off by inner fender components, so likely the fixture itself pops off the outside?
From the back... aka behind it... take a peek in the wheel well and you'll see them

Here's what new ones look like. These are Bearmach and closely match the crusty ones I pulled off. These are taped on, and the original were also some sort of adhesive plus some push on type nuts over the plastic spikes.

interesting,

I have been looking into adding them to my 90 (2.5NA bodywork didn't have holes for them/side air intake).

Wonder if they would be a PITA to drill and add, the later style TDCI ones fit in the bodywork in a pretty specific manner.
