I crawled under the truck to track down and broken speedo, but I noticed that there seems to be missing a drain plug. I suspect it is the gear box fill plug

Can any one confirm there is supposed to be something in there (sorry still a newb at this).

not to worry

That is the bell-housing drain hole

A wading plug can be installed when going into deep mud and water but it is meant to be removed during normal operation

There is also one on the timing case of the diesels IDK about petrol

That should be the plug in the lower right of the picture. Put it in when wading and out the rest of the time.
I have to say though that my drain hole is on the front(engine side) of the flywheel housing, not the bottom.
