What is a Defender VIN numbers worth?

Hello all.
First time posting here. Looking for some help. Dose anyone know what a Defender VIN number is worth? I have three data plates which came off of three wrecked 110 Defenders from the early 1990s. The Defenders were parted out and frames scraped, but we kept the VIN plates.

So is there a market for these VIN plates and if so, anyone know what the value would be attached to them? And who may be interested in buying them?

Do you have titles to go with each in your name?

And some proof nothing nefarious is going on?
CBP/DHS/NHTSA would be highly interested in them.

We purchased 6 "110s" from BATUS as salvage and build 3 out of the six units. This was late in 1999 / 2000 and sold them off after rebuilding them.

The other 3 were parted out. The frames were bent from use at the military base and in no condition to sell safely to an end user.

We held onto the VINs with a plan to someday build more 110 and then use the VINs we had, but now 22 years later it never happened.

As far as saying nothing nefarious, not sure how to answer this. I can only tell you the back story leading up to this post.

Thanks for your thoughts.....
Thanks for sharing. I've been out of the defender field for 15 years now and just getting back in.
So as a dumb follow up question, what is CBP DHS and NHTSA.
I'lll search them up but you could save me a few minutes looking on line.
He was being sarcastic.. Its illegal to sell Vin numbers. Im not sure id be advertising your plans on a public forum frequented by Customs and Border Patrol, Dept of Homeland Security (CBP DHS ) etc

Interesting. In the aviation field as long as you have data plate from the lost airframe you can rebuild the machine as new. The reason we still have 50 year old heavy lift helicopters flying.
Im guessing they dont have aviation chop shops in every major city processing stolen planes... Google is it illegal to sell a VIN number?...

I will, I know US laws are some of the hardest. With a 25 year rule for import. Not sure what UK and other counties have to say about it. Thanks.

I’m sure if you sold it Canada and did a bill of sale as a “whole truck” it would be fine. But selling it across country lines, runs into some issues.

Where are the VINs currently registered?

In order for a vin plate & title to have value in the US for someone building a truck up from parts the complete vehicle associated with that vin would first have to be formally imported so that the requisite documents to title the vehicle in the US are obtained. A vin plate and registration from countries outside the US have no real value here.

No they are ex military units which were sold in Canada as salvage. Under Canadian rules we can rebuild or restore a 110 and bring it in for inspection, then use the vin to register or lisence it. So no they are not in any system yet.
Sounds like you would have to build (using the original engine type) and license it in Canada, then import to the US. I'm guessing the value of a usable VIN would be around 4k USD.

Problem with that plan and valuation is that the vehicle has to be on its original chassis in order to be importable. He's already said they were cut up and scrapped.
Can they really tell the difference between a new Marsland chassis that's been properly stamped, and an original pristine one? If so, the VIN would only be valuable within Canada.
Worth between 1-4 years in NY, 3-7 years in Illinois according to Google (if nefarious of course)

I think the bigger point is that you've gone to the expense of ordering and shipping a marsland stamped chassis and now have to build an entire truck (in Canada) that corresponds to how that vin decodes ( ie no building your dream 5 door on a military soft top VIN) and then title that vehicle there in Canada.

All of this just in order to get the vin in?
Its become a very expensive proposition.

Once you've gone to that expense- if entering via ship, hell yeah the Customs officers take pictures and send them to LR. Even legit original 25+ yr old frames have been held up for considerable periods by certain officers. Entry via any entry point is always @ the assigned officers discretion and they try to rotate officers through different duties to give them a broad training base, so you never know what to expect. If the guy isnt comfortable due to lack of knowledge its not uncommon for an entry to be delayed a month or more for the officer waiting for feedback. No correlations can be drawn or assumptions made. Best not to tempt fate.
YMMV
