What’s under your shifter boot?

Is there supposed to be a metal or fiberglass cover under my shifter boot? Perhaps with some sound proofing material over the top of it?

see mine where it is open to the gearbox and the ground.

is there no “hard“ piece to block out any moisture or debris from under the vehicle contacting the insulation pad?

The insulation is closed cell foam so is waterproof. The gearbox moves around so the seal must be flexible.
This location will be the least of your worries for moisture / debris getting into AND out of your truck.

You need that pad. So much NOISE and heat come through that hole. You won't believe how much quieter the truck will be.
Wouldn’t you like to know?

just kidding I have a pad/ sound barrier
