Does anyone know what this cable goes to on my 1989 90? My defender seems to run fine, but as I was under the hood this weekend I noticed this cable was out and I'm not quite sure where it's supposed to connect. Thanks in advance!

That should be the ZF kick down cable.

Is your Rover an automatic? If So then it is the kick down linkage. Read up on how to adjust it. If not then it is most likely a "Hand" throttle cable.

No it's a 5 speed manual. Seems to be driving/accelerating fine. I'm wondering if the previous owner did some work to the throttle body and left it disconnected

Hand throttle. Mine had one because it was a farm vehicle and used to have some sort of power take off before I got it.

There is no said "throttle body/butterfly" on a diesel. Follow the cable to inside the cab and most likely there is a knob(Push/Pull) to raise or lower the throttle if you were running some type of implement(PTO).
