Trouble Finding Bushings for Rear Bilstein Shocks

1013 Views 10 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  fishEH
Need to replace lower bushings on rear shocks, I might as well do the uppers too. I'm having trouble finding the correct bushings, I've called around locally and have been told there are two different types of bushing based on my vin number, at the time I did not have my vin on hand. Called AB who told me they don't even carry bushings for the rear Bilstein shocks. Called Bilstein US who weren't aware if they could supply me with just the bushing as a replacement part, or any problems with premature bushing wear. When I purchased the shocks some 4-5 years ago I know bushings came with them. I am kind of surprised I'm already needing to replace them, I had to replace my front shock absorber bushings a couple months ago. I'm wondering if this is a symptom of the Bilstein gas-charged shocks? The Bilstein gas charged shocks seem to exert alot of pressure on the innermost bushings and those bushings wear out prematurely. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a harder/longer-lasting bushing available? Thanks in advance.

Bilstein has been making shocks for a long time... Did you put the washers in the right way?

Btw try eshocks online or downsouth motorsports... They should be able to help you out
Yes I know to how to install the washers so that they cup the bushing. :rolleyes

Really?
I'm just trying to find the correct bushing for a gas shock. Btw downsouthmotorsports.com doesn't have anything Land Rover and eshocks.com looks like they only sell complete shock kits.
I posted for help, I shouldn't have to be faced with questions about my expertise with my own vehicle on an enthusiast forum especially regarding something as simple as the orientation of a shock absorber bushing washer. I've restored a 1975 Triumph TR6 which I still drive today when I was 16 years old what were you doing?

Both those places are shock (inc bilstein ) experts.... Talk to them... They both sell shocks... For all sorts of vehicles inc rovers... And take a pill... I'm trying to help you out. If you are an expert why ask for help? Btw I have bought rover shocks and shock parts from both those places... As have many board members. Btw search the board on how to install the washers... They get installed like this: =)[]| |[](=. The bushings need room to flex.
Brett,
Yes I have the yellow and blue Bilsteins. Thanks for your help but I'm having particular difficulty finding the lower bushing for the rear shocks. If only they were as easy to find as the upper bushings.
Same thing happened with my Bilsteins bushings.
Got lucky local mechanic had some left over from another job.
Are these the yellow and blue Bilsteins? If so, these should work.
Shock Bushings - Upper - Rear Also Sway Bar Bushing (Part # 552819 ) - Land Rover bushings from Atlantic British

And no, the washers don't "cup" the bushings.

If it's this style, i have yellow poly bushings leftover that I could sell you. How my do you need? Pm for info
The lower bushings??? Any of the ones that say LOWER should work.
