My ROW tdi still has its original bulkhead. Can someone advise on how much trimming is needed to install the attached SD cage? I’d love to see some pics of this installed ( interior pics). The 12 page SD instructions offers a few very vague shots that do not help very much! Literature only states” some trimming required!”.
Thanks!

What he said. The interior W bar part is meant to structurally replace the interior bulkhead. That’s what I’ve done with my trail 90. You’d be hard pressed to know the bulkhead was ever there. Bonus is seats now can now be placed on extension rails.

Can I see pictures of yours? I'm interested in that cage also but want to see how.it looks installed. Thanks!

Identical to a NAS 90. Not sure my truck is a good one for pictures, I have the puma self powered subwoofer bolted to the back of the cubby box and a load space shelf that comes right up to the seat backs. Both make it difficult to see the w bar.

I have the cage and am about to do my install. I've also purchased the top body rails for a truck that does not have a bulkhead to make the install as clean as possible. Glad to take and post pics if anyone is interested. Will be starting just as soon as I wrap up my crossmember replacement.

I installed an external SD cage on my 3 door 110 a couple of years ago, To attach the inner bulkhead portion to the undercarriage component. I drilled 3 holes. I have pictures i can share, but I think we would need to go over email. I don't have them on a web site.

Here are a few pictures of the last SD cage I installed. It's a slightly different model from the one you listed as I went with the competition cage. I fit a W bar and added seat belt mounts which are great as mentioned. If you add seat risers you will have a ton of legroom beabe to recline a good but. You can buy the W bar ready to install but they are pricey. I just purchased the Wbar w/o the seatbelt mounts and added them for a fraction of the cost of the complete one. You can fit this cage w/o removing the bulkhead divider if you want but it's well worth the extra effort to remove it. Also an FYI SD cages come with ZERO install instructions and a bag of nuts and bolts:( I've installed a few of them and love the cage but everything else is lacking. BOL with the cage.

Unfortunately, I don't have pictures showing a partial bulkhead removal. I would suggest cutting it all the way out and installing the Wbar. I did a partial removal years ago and wasn't happy with the final product. You will probably also want to get seat risers. They will lift the seat over the seat box lip and create extra legroom. Several companies offer them. I just made a set using 2' x 3" structural aluminum tubing from McMaster Carr. You just need to get longer bolts. Cheers,
Scott

Collecting parts! I’d like to paint match the exterior front windshield bars alpine white to the truck. Can the SD standard finish be scuffed and paint prepped?, or does it need to be striped and primed/painted from bare metal?

Catching up: like others here I find the instructions for this cage lacking. As I told a local Rover owner, I give them a D- for the effort of the manual. The quality of the parts is nice, however.

I unpackaged mine this weekend, and it took nearly two hours to get all of the plastic off without hurting the powder coat.

A local friend with a NAS wagon stopped by and I was able to photograph the parts on his truck that aren't clear in the manual, especially the rear supports.

I'll start my install late this week and if time allows, will start new thread for the 138/7 cage and post pictures.

Please consider keeping in this thread, it’s all related and VERY helpful!

The turn-key solution is to have it re-powder coated with matching powder. If painting, I'd apply whatever adhesion promoter your paint system offers, although this does often involve scuffing per the product TDS.
