I’m considering an engine swap and a big factor in deciding (for me) is fuel economy.

I think I posed this question when I was new to the site, and it didn’t really go anywhere.

Anyone who is willing, please post your MPG.

is can be as simple as year model and mileage, or as detailed a description of your rig as you feel is appropriate.

that said, if you aren’t posting a statistic, please don’t hijack the thread with explanations as to why the question isn’t prudent or lists of factors which would change or invalidate the data.

I’ll start

I’m driving an ex-mod 110 with the stock drivetrain (2.5na, lt77, 7.5-16 XZL)
I typically see 20 MPG

I'd say if you're going to spend the money on an engine swap thousands of dollars then you shouldn't be worried about the miles per gallon. That being said I hate paying at the pump too.

200tdi, 110, 35s I get about 25ish if it's on the flats

1994 NAS 90, 14 mpg (3.9 V8). I could climb a mountain, or coast down the same mountain, and 14 is always the number!

300 Tdi 110 with about 150k miles on the engine, 1.2 transfer case, R380, stock tires. Get 23 or so running 65-70. Used to get 25 when I first got it with about 30k miles on the engine.

92 110, Stock 200 TDI with 185k miles, 33s, LT77, minimal upkeep (stock timing belt) and get 18

1988 D90, 300tdi, R380, 1.2 Transfer case, AC, 33" AT tires, no rear interior, Rear mounted Full size Spare. Bought December 4th 2020. Driven 1000 miles so far. 65-70mph no worries, constant 27mpg so far.

‘87 Tithonus 110 w/ 37’s, 200 Tdi, 1.6 T-case, and stock (locked) gears, consistent 24mpg but seldom use above 65mph as we live rural and retired.
Drove NAS 90’s as DD for years from stock to locked w/ 35’s, and always 12-14mpg, no more, no less.

90, 200TDI with VNT, LT77, 1.2 t. case. 25 mpg highway.
110 (heavy 6000+ pounds), 4BD1t, LT95, 23 mpg.

97 NAS 4.0L V8, Auto, 190k original engine/trans miles, 255/85’s 411’s and 2” lift. I probably average 65mph and get about 13mpg.

110 RoW 200tdi swap, Lt77, 1.4tc, 235’s stock suspension, average 65mph and get mid 20’s mpg. (Parts and labor to swap, including replace old worn out rad, timing belt, lower bearings, water pump, oil pump, soft mounts, exhaust, injectors, turbo, injection pump, PS convert, just under $10k)
Difference in fuel savings negligible. Difference in highway cruising speed 10mph.

pretty similar set up here. But 16mpg is a highway only number. It’s worse in town.

My 200tdi 90 gets around 24mpg hwy and my 200tdi RRC gets around 30mpg hwy.

1996 Defender 90 - 300tdi r380, averaging 7l/100km or 33mpg Mix of highway, Off Road, better economy than any other vehicle I own. it has had a full service which includes cleaned injectors, new tappets and adjusted valves, new turbo, no egr, new oil and airfilter, and all completly rebuilt axles, new vacuum pump,tensioner and all belts, it did a 276km offroading trip, 8 hours of driving including some 4hi some 4l and some locked and I only needed to put approx 20l of diesel back in it when I got back home, needle was reading just under 3/4 of a tank.

with that being said i drove it to work doing ~60mph and burned the same amount of fuel for 110km she is thirsty when she is up above 80kph
