Hey everyone,

I just replaced a 2.5na with a rebuilt 300tdi in my 93 D110. The snorkel is mounted on the passenger side of my LHD truck. Is there a way to hook up the snorkel to the air box and turbo? Or do I need to get a snorkel on the driver side if I want to run one? Thanks!

The stock intake location for the 300Tdi is the RF fender - the air cleaner should be on the passenger side of the engine in a LHD truck - you just need the connector hose to the intake grill in the right front fender.I built my own snorkel out of surplus 3" diameter C-130 fuel line tubing I fished out of a scrap barrel and used a centrifugal pre-cleaner.

You can get hosing and fabricate some steel adapters to make it work from the left side to air intake housing on the right but that become a long run and I'd assume it will effect engine performance.
Another option is to replace the fenders with period correct ones. A 300tdi correct fender will have the intake on the right side. I'm assuming your snorkel enters through the top of the fender (through the plastic wingtop piece), as the 2.5na air filter was mounted in the front of the wing behind the headlight and not through the fender?
The new panel can be had for a reasonable price, painting would be required. A 300Tdi snorkel is around $100.
You can also opt to not have a snorkel and install the factory pre air filter and hose that originally connects to the filter intake.
Good luck

I think those snorkels don't do anything but choke the inlet pull into the engine.
Wish I had a dollar for every one that I've removed.
Unless you are crossing the Zambezi on a regular basis, can't see the point of the raised intake, but then again don't like loud exhausts either.
Am about to remove a 300TDI raised air intake with great joy and happiness if you want another at a reasonable price.

All I ask is that if there is a snorkel on the truck that it be plumbed to the engine air intake. Lol.
Factory 300Tdi had air intake on rhs and 200 on lhs, both on the fender sides.
In 1993, snorkels were mounted on existing vents in fender tops, lhs for lhd and rhs for rhd.

Not to mention that they are bait for truck eating trees.

Dirt roads. I travel a lot of them daily and pulling air from behind my front tire puts a lot of dirt in my filter. The raised air intake stopped that.

Forgot to mention half the ones I pull off are not even connected to anything, so must be for show.
In the case of road dust, yeah if it helps a lot, sure use it.

I almost doubled the life of my air filter with mine - plus most of the commercially available snorkels for Defenders are 2.5" in diameter.
According to the sizing calculations on the chart that Centri provides they recommend a 3" diameter inlet for a 2.5 liter turbodiesel.

I never wanted it, but when I was picking up some parts at RN Mark was looking at my truck and told me I'd need one. He was right.

It's kinda like rock sliders. I never wanted them either, but I didn't quite clear something and ended up bending my sill and ripping the bolt from the brace out of my body panel. Guess what I ended up putting on my truck last weekend? With the sliders you can barely see the damage and with the tree bars I can easily get to my rack, so bonus.
