Greetings all,

I've got a great 55 Series 1 86 that needs a head gasket replaced and just can't seem to find a mechanic in the area. Full disclosure, I've worked with Norman (Brit4wd) and Stephen (Safari HP) and have not had the best of luck Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

If you are willing to travel north ... Roverchef on here in St Augustine and James at British 4x4 in Jacksonville.

Thanks. Those are options. I'll take a look. I'm in Miami. I just wish there was someone reputable here. Oh well.
Find a Cuban born back alley mechanic. Miami is full of them. Could probably fix it with a toothpick and a bologna sandwich. Find one that is busy and been there for a long time.

that’s what I would do if I couldn’t find a Land Rover specialist nearby.

I have a guy here that repairs my fleet cars, he’s from elSalvadore. Charges me 50 an hour and can literally fix anything. Installed new electric A/C compressor and components in my fleet Lexus hybrid for $350 labor.

Truer words could not be spoken. I've actually engaged in that search as well being of Cuban descent myself I realized over the years that desire to do the work is sometimes more important than ability. Thanks for the message.

A head gasket replacement on the 2.0 liter is a very simple repair. Any experienced mechanic with a set of whitworth wrenches should be able to do it. If the engine is original it should be the later spread bore. I would take the time to order replacement parts, get the manual (or at least a pdf version) and present all to the mechanic so they don't have to research. Should be as simple as checking the head and block once removed and reinstalling.

What is going on here? Is that for your choke to return?

Thank you for the insight. I have already ordered the gasket replacement kit as well as a new ignition coil, new distributor assembly, electric fuel pump and spare carburetor. You are correct in that that is the choke return spring.

European Car Performance in Stuart, Florida on the Treasure Coast 30 minutes north of Jupiter.

32 years A + BBB

I have been taking our Land Rovers there since moving from Alaska, family owned Gianni and son Taylor along with their staff are experts in European cars, especially vintage British, German, French, Italian automobiles, we relocated from Hobe Sound to Melbourne, but I still go down there to visit family and their shop is just a few minutes from family. They are very honest and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to vintage European cars and new European cars

You can mention that Tony from Alaska referred you

thanks
Much appreciated Tony (from Alaska)
