I always understood that beans were to be served under the chilli, along with noodles as some like to do. The Texas or Cincinnati style chili and the shredded cheese on top.
What you put under and then over are counted as layers so a 4 way
is noodles,beans, chilli, then cheese

Cincinnati style is tomato based http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati_chili
Texas style is meat with seasonings, no tomato's or beans in the chili http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/True-Texas-Chili-355049

This isn't correct ?

Who won our boyscout den chili cook off? This girl! :rolleyes ..and I serve it with jalapeno cheese corn bread..nom nom Mines tomato base, different cuts of meat and spices...no beans. I have gotten fancy and put yellow or white hominy, bell peppers, cilantro and such in before. It was good too but not as popular as the all meat. Rice or corn tortilla chips go good on the side too.

First run complete. I have to say this thing is neat gadget. The timer function is great. Recipe is a good base, lots to tweak on the spice level.
