Flasher relay for LED blinker lights

I have ordered LED replacement lights for the dash lights and the exterior lights from superbrightleds.com. Should get the delivery today. I know I will need a flasher relay for the blinkers. Does any one know a source and part number for the needed relay. The ECR replacement light package comes with this relay, but I am trying the DIY route.

I will post the part numbers on the lights once I find out what works.

thanks

Manimal,
Did you ever find out which led bulbs are used for the clock and cigar lighter? These are the only 2 I cant find listed anywhere. Thanks

I swapped out the facia panel controls today (rear window defrost, rear window wiper, rear window cleaner) with the 75xHP LEDs. They are very bright. Perfect for the dash. Remember to make sure that there is only one wire on each side for all the press fit bulbs. Mine wrapped around. I painfully learned from experience that they had to be trimmed. I also swapped out the hazard. The clock had a mystery bulb which I have to source and the cigar lighter ring needs a 90 degree bulb.

My hazard switch keeps popping out and there is nothing on it to hold it inside the facia. Every time its pushed it comes out. Am I missing something? Most other buttons have a feature to hold them in place.

Here's pic of the clock bulb. What type of bulb is this? BA7? BA9?
I think these are it:

Clock: BA7S-W $1.50
Cigar Lighter: 74-GHP3 $3.49

I recall buying a different bulb for the Cigar Lighter but it didn't fit. There is not a great replacement bulb for the Cigar Lighter because the bulb has to fit in a small tube and shine at a 90 degree angle The 74-GHP3 is not great but the only alternative at this point.

Out of all the replacement bulbs you'll probably be the least happy with the clock and cigar lighter simply because they're not designed to disperse light very well and there are no perfect choices when it comes to replacement.

Here's the full list that I used to install on my SW 90. For Front Parking, Reverse Light and interior dome lights you can choose warm or cool. Cool is: CW and Warm is WW. Cool would be 1156-CW-45-T if you go with the 45 led bulb. I highly recommend going with the 45 over the 18 LED bulb for front parking, signals and stop lights. Don't skimp on the dome lights, the $15 bulbs are worth it. On the SW rear defroster, rear wiper and rear wiper washer bulbs snip the wires so that the bulb only have one wire on each side or you will fry the harness. Look into the bulb holders on these three lights and you'll understand what I'm talking about. No need to snip any other wires anywhere, just these three.

So I installed some led lights for flashers... and it's been flashing rapidly... so I went ahead and purchased Flasher relay CF13GL-02 from autolumination.com...

I swapped out the old flasher with the new one... and NADA... zilch... zero...

I put the old one back and rapid flashing.. so it's not like something came lose behind all the wires etc...

Any reason why the new flasher won't work at all? Bad Flasher maybe?

Jij
think you need a resistor in there. Not a EE so I can't tell you which size.
x2 on resistors to solve the fast blink.
Is this in the front or back you are having this problem? You need resistors. I may have some laying around.

Rovers North has a resistor kit for LED turn signals:

http://landroverparts.roversnorth.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=SLD12V&type=0&eq=
Digi-key part# UAL-50-6F-ND 50W 6ohm aluminum heat sink flange mount resistor $2.20 each, you need four (1 for each corner)

I just checked and Digi Key is out

Mouser has them...71-RH50-6.0 $4.67
I have a set I can dig out for you. Cheaper than RN. I bought 4 but only needed two for the front. The rear worked fine without them.
You can avoid the resister approach by getting the correct flasher relay
Are you sure about that? I needed both an LED compatible relay and resistors.

I needed the resistors as well on the front 2.
I used the correct flasher but still needed resistors in the front once I switched them to LED as well.

All good now.
I got lucky. had a couple different LED flashers, and one of them was able to operate the flashers normally without the fast flashing and no need for load resistors (well, it actually operates a little slower than before the LED install, but does work). I picked this one up from Boltonbits in the U.K., called an RDX Flasher unit.
I have 4 new resistors if anyone is interested. Will post in for sale tread when I get to it.
Following. Great info. Any updates in technology over the past 2 years?

Hey Carl, what color interior bulbs did you go with...also cool, natural or warm?
I'm about to buy them and like the green but not sure if they will leave me desiring the white, clear bulbs. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Eddie
Dumb question I HAVE NO TURN SIGNALS. JUST ALL 4 FLASH. I cannot find this answer on the search. Swapped out RDX led kit with relay. All work great but turn signals when when switched on all flash (front and back) like the emergency flasher is on, which it is not. Flasher lights work well when engaged All fuses good. (slant type) Thinking I may need resistors. Where would resistors go?

Vehicle is a 1991 ROW 90.
Remove the dash indicator bulb for now and they will work. You want the RDX led indicator bulb to fix it properly.
This thing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/232280619868

Load resistors will work as well, but they are crappy way to solve the issue.
