Rock Rails

I'm building up a Tithonus 110 right now that has jerry can doors but both the doors and the compartments themselves hang down into where the rock rails should replace the sill. How did you fit yours?

Hey brian.
Trim them to be flush with sill line. Use standard 110 sliders.

Thanks guys. Adam, looks like your rig is in the other thread too. If you don't mind, could you post pictures of what the trim looks like with the jerry can doors open (compartment sill and inside of door)?

I really want to avoid a trim but it might come to that. I did see a guy in the UK that raised his compartments about an inch (after cutting the body) and then install Mantec sliders. Different approach but just as scary.

After doing that, can you still stuff a jerry can in there? My experience has been that the sidelockers are very tight with a 20L NATO can before you go make the opening smaller.


If you could post some pictures of the bottom of the interior of the locker I'm sure that would be very helpful to some of us considering this.

You're trimming the door, not the actual compartment.

Thanks for the pics. So in addition to trimming the door, you also cut the bottom off the frame that surrounds the door. Anything else?

I can't see any impairment to function, except to the extent that the bottom part of the door frame might provide some rigidity.

That is it. I've had two full cans in there with no distortion in the bottom edge.

Awesome, just the pics I needed. Thanks again, Adam. We might have to go forward with this kind of alteration versus finding a custom rock rail.

North America Overland was able to shim the jerry can lockers up a bit (required removing one rib at the top), which then required only a minimum of trimming (maybe a quarter inch) to the locker bodies to bring them flush with the sill. The locker doors themselves will be trimmed but then re-folded to add strength and to look like factory. Pretty cool!
