Might anyone know what the temperature sweep is on the stock temp gauge? '94 D90.
Mine will get into red, but an IR thermometer reads only 200F at the sending unit.
Thanks

Might be a bad ground ... there are 3 wires on the gauge ...

ground .. jump this direct to your battery -ve.

12V ... jump this direct to your battery +ve

and the sensor ... run a replacement /temp wire

that way you can replace the wires one at a time and figure whats causing the excessive sweep. If it still does it then the gauge of sensor are faulty. Sensor can be tested with a multi meter for resistance. Gauge I'm not sure.

Many people move to VDO at this point!

Thanks.
The sensor is new, so I'm assuming bad gauge.
I can't imagine the stock gauge reads red at 200F

Is the behavior the same for pre and post new sensor?

If this happened when you put the sensor in, it could be the range on the sensor is wrong and doesn't match the gauge.

Was having issues before the new sensor, but not as dramatic as after the sensor. I would never peg red before the new sensor; just about 3/4.

Sounds like you don't have the right sensor. 200 degrees should be just past center. I'd take the opportunity to switch to a VDO gauge with matching sensor so you see the actual temps
