My issue was the grub screw, but when I took a grinder to the little grub screw, it tore it to pieces before I barely even touched it and the whole thing released from the shaft. I'm assuming it heated it up pretty good in a short amount of time, and may have freed it from the shaft a little. Before that it'd broken an allen wrench and a small drill bit haha.

Seriously, where do they find the engineers who came up with this design?? The grub screw will never let go and the thing will rust itself into place and the stoopid splines will wear out (and that too what a crazy way to attach wipers!!) until your wipers are falling off in the middle off a downpour on the highway. At night.

Same engineer also clearly designed the clip system to keep the window winder handles on their shafts.

You are way behind the times! The same engineer started working for jaguar shortly afterward and designed the engine in the xf. They have major irreparabler overheating and cracked block issues. Think porsche 911 block. Last I heard as of 3 months ago the going rate on a used xf engine with 15k was 22k. A shop in the OC purchased it and noticed the casing on the hydraulic tensioner was scratched. Wanting everything to look perfect for his client he swapped it with the one from the old engine and neglected to re pressurize it , a 5 hour job and promptly blew up the new engine!

That same 'designer' that spent all those years ONLY at college without ever using a spanner in anger (nor even knowing what a spanner was) has come up with such engineering marvels as that(and more) ...........Let alone the suits that approved it.......

We are doomed........

Do you have a replacement? I think I might have one in my tool box at work if you need it.

Here's what I did...

Same issue. How ironi that the wipers flopped all over the place but the damn collets wouldn't come free of the posts!!! My dad had a small puller that I was able to rig up after drilling out the set screws. they sure put up a hell of a fight. I was able to re-tap the threads, wire wheel and paint them and get new set screws from ACE. They are like brand new.

Let me know if you want them.

After getting angry trying to get the first one off I bought new boxes and ferrules from RDS when George was still running it. Well worth the pain of taking the dash apart to fit the boxes so as not to deal with the original pieces!

Good to know I have company in the suffering LOL. I bought replacement adaptors from Rovers North, they are pretty cheap but the same bloody grub screw design. Yeah I have put lots of grease on the new ones now. But yes the real answer is to take apart the dash, remove the old wiper motor assemblies and replace with the newer ones used in Pumas. Those use a different, more sensible method to attach the wipers: a nut to screw down onto the threaded end of the shaft. Just imagine! Only sixty years to reach that amazing step forward ...

BTW thanks guys for offering the parts. I had ordered everything ahead of time before attacking the project. At least I thought I had everything. I was missing the following special LR tools:
AMR83849FU Suspension of Disbelief Assy
ALF94737WTF Infinite Patience with Zen adaptor

So, what would one do proactively to prevent this chaos?
I ditched the set screws and used stainless socket head screws M4x 10mm, I think I might of used 15mm, either way screw you set screws.
