1997 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS Automatic, 154K Miles

Anybody know this truck?

1997 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS Automatic, 154K Miles - $43000

condition: good
odometer: 154000
title status: salvage
type: offroad

This is my 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 NAS (North American Specification) in Coniston Green.
This is #264 of only 1,300 Defender 90 Hard Tops (Station Wagon) made in 1997, the final year of Production for the United States. This is a rare vehicle in the U.S., and only getting rarer now that Land Rover has discontinued the Defender worldwide.

I am selling because I am moving to NYC and have come to the difficult decision that I just can't take this with me. As of writing this the car has 153,460 miles, however I will continue to drive the car daily until sold, so the mileage will increase slightly.

The car has a SALVAGE Title applied, which had been applied long before I bought the car. According to the previous owner, the car was in an accident in the late 90s (early on in the car's life) and had the salvage title applied. The car was repaired, has had regular maintenance, and has gone many miles since then.

The car runs great, and drives down the road as fast as you want it to. It drives great in the field, leisurely around town, and at 70 or 80mph on the highway. The Defender has its original 4.0 Liter V-8 Engine with ZF 4-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Non-Stock Parts:
-TerraFirma4x4 Defender Steel Winch Bumper (Specific for Defenders with A/C)
-Warn Industries XD9000i Winch (Wired to switches on dashboard)
-Old Man Emu Shocks and Stabilizers by ARB
-Rear Protected Halogen Spot Light (Wired to switch on dashboard)
-Wiring in place for Roof Mounted Lights (Wired to switches on dashboard)
-MOMO Italy Competition Tuning Steering Wheel
-Safari Snorkel

Overall the car is in Great Condition:
-Exterior Body in Good Condition with slight dents and scratches characteristic of 18 year old 4x4
-Interior in Great Condition
-All Seats are in Excellent Condition
-Front Carpet in Excellent Condition, Newly installed in, 3/2015
-Rear Carpet in Good Condition
-All (4) Michelin M&S 265 Tires in Great Condition
-Rear Spare (1) BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A 265/75 R16 Tire in Great Condition (Maybe Unused?, It was on the car when I bought it, and I have never used it)
-New Maxx EverStart 24F Battery put in 2/2015 (3 Year Guarantee)
-Heat works Great in Winter, blows hot!
-Weather-Proofing Strips around Drivers and Passenger Doors Recently Repaired, 3/2015

-Extensive Emissions & Exhaust Maintenance done Professionally in 12/2014, Including:
New Catalytic Converter
New Exhaust Manifold
New Exhaust Manifold Stud Kit
New Exhaust Manifold Gaskets (4)
New O2 Sensors (All 4 Replaced)
New Muffler
New Tail Pipe
New Ignition Wires

This work was done by British 4x4s of Fairfield, CT (Land Rover Specialty Shop), ALL Parts Genuine Land Rover Original Parts shipped from the UK.

-Last Full Land Rover 150 Point Inspection done at Land Rover of Darien, CT by Certified Land Rover Technician, 12/2014
-Passed Yearly Emissions and Safety Inspection in Washington DC, 1/2015

Minor Cosmetic Issues:
-Some minor scratches and dents on body
-Some Rust on the Interior of rear bumper and Underside of Car (An 18 year old car with 150k+ Miles is unfortunately not going to be rust-free)
-Spot on hood where paint has begun to chip
-Headliner is pulling away slightly (very common), and has two very small tears in rear
-Drivers seatback has two small tears (otherwise seats are in excellent condition)
-A few small stairs on rear carpet
- Faint spots on the Steering Wheel, Center Console, and Passenger Door where it looks like a child drew with a permanent marker (Ask for Pictures, very minor)

Other Issues:
-One Trailing-Arm is slightly bent, causing the steering wheel to be slightly off-center when driving straight
-Factory A/C does not work currently. The A/C did work as it should in Fall 2014, however when turned on for the first time this spring it did not work, never have had time to fix
-Rear Window Wiper does not work
-CD Player Does not work (Radio works fine, just not the CD Player part)
-Seatbelts for Rear Seats are missing
-Turn Signals do not always cancel correctly, A mechanic told me this is likely due to the non-factory steering wheel, and putting an original steering wheel back on may likely fix this. (When I bought the car it had the MOMO steering wheel. I had always meant to put an original back on but have never gotten around to it)

This is a Used Vehicle sold As-Is with no Warranty and no Returns. It is the Buyers Responsibility to fully examine the Vehicle to their satisfaction.

Serious Inquiries please email me with any questions, for many additional pictures, or to arrange a viewing & test-drive. PRICE IS FIRM.

Heard that! Good for him if he can get that price for that truck, but I really don't think so. Is that even the right top? Aren't rear vents from pre-90's era?

Damn. If anyone is considering this one, please consider mine for 53k.
Mine too, please. That tub damage alone, to me, takes off a few good $$ from this purported $43k value.

I love it when a Rover ad says this.

It means it is much worse than you can expect.

My Rover is 24 years old and it is rust-free...

That looks like a low 20Ks D, depending on the corrosion underneath.
