ive had my defender going on 11 years now and 50k miles. it has been trouble free and a joy to own. i got my check engine light cherry popped last week, turned out to be a code for the VSS. i went through the steps and cleared the code with no issue. id been driving on the highway for about 45 minutes when the CEL showed up. no symptoms of poor running or idle etc what wouldve cause this code? a glitch in the matrix? truck runs extremely well.

please excuse my lack of punctuation and proper use of my native language

Check out the VSS as per the manual and go from there. A dead VSS won't cause a lot of symptoms. Mostly it lets the EFI ECU switch between two idle modes. If it is in the wrong mode, you can have stalling issues as it does not know when you are stopping.
