Am I able to swap out an early (1985 Australian 110) 3.5L V8 distributor, Lucas 35D I'm pretty sure, with points, to a later distributor with electronic ignition?

Okay, I bought a distributor for the 3.9 V8 Defender 90 I have. I can't get it to seat down correctly in the notch. Basically, its not going "all the way in". Being the genius (i am not), any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know a source for distributor springs ? I want to get some new ones for a NAS 110 as my old ones are slightly stretched. I know I could get an entire replacement aftermarket distributor for not too much money but I'd rather keep the one that I've got and just replace the springs.
