History
Purchased by Sarah in 1995 as my 5th wedding anniversary gift. Original LHD diesel 2.25 5 door "Safari" Station Wagon with all the options...deluxe interior, side steps, dished bonnet, tropical top, Brownchurch rack.
Drove in its original config until about 2001, when I installed an IH 345 V8, t18 transmission and hybrid Dana 18 transfer case. Let's just say I did an awful job of it. It was never right. Eventually the transfer case friction welded itself together, so after getting two years out of the V8, it sat. It was in the driveway for another two years then it went over to the Eastern Shore. It was parked there until September of 2011, when I began a complete refurb down to the rivets.
It now has a Designa galvanized coil sprung chassis painted satin black. Rolling on Goodyear Kevlar MTR on galvanized Rostyle steel wheels. Salisbury rear axle with disk brakes, Range Rover front axle with vented disk brakes. Bearmach blue 3 inch springs, Bilstein 4600 shocks. Custom Equipe -2" front shock towers. Terrafirma -2" rear shock mounts. Custom drive shafts with dual double cardan front. LT230 1.22 ratio transfer case, Ashcroft rebuilt R380 5 speed transmission. Powered by 2.5L 200Tdi diesel turbocharged. Custom oversize intercooler and 300 Tdi in/out manifolds and turbocharger.
Engine mnitoring via Auber instruments EGT and boost gauges. Period correct Jaeger oil pressure and temp gauges mounted in custom panels on dash.
Interior custom Exmoor Trim coverings on early 110 tray back seats. Heater elements in all seating front and rear.
Air conditioning and heating via custom combo unit mounted under passenger side wing. Ducting is period correct unit.
Heated windscreen heated rear window. Rear gas-strut assisted liftgate and swing out lower rear gate. Custom stainless steel Brownchurch rear ladder. Class 3 tow hitch.
New wiring new plumbing new paint. All steel components galvanized including door frames. Many original fittings de rusted and replated with zinc.
