Input/interest in LT230 increased capacity sump cover

Project I've been toying with, a sump cover that adds ~21oz in extra capacity to the LT230. It's a straight bolt-on to replace the rectangular flat inspection cover with the unit shown below.

It certainly can't hurt to have an extra 5/8-3/4 of a quart in the LT230, as I know some folks intentionally jack up the rear of their Defender when filling the LT230 so they can slip a quart or so extra in there for sloshing around. This unit would alleviate that hassle, and allow for extra capacity automatically.

Anyhow, just figured I'd float it out there to gauge the interest level in such an item before I decide on whether to proceed with a run of them....the floor is open to input!

Well, I do now . Looks like that one is cast maybe rather than milled? Also looks like it doesn't fit the V8, which this one will (with many folks on here obviously rolling in NAS trucks).

re: V8 comment, I'm just reading left-to-right, top-to-bottom, grouping words together to make a sentence directly from their website:

"This cover fits all Defender models with diesel engines, but will not fit V8 models due to exhaust interference issues."

really…didn't read it or notice because I already have 2 installed on my trucks and installed one on a 110 with a v8 conversion (14cux with auto box), but we did a custom exhaust.





so take a midol...

Custom exhaust routing I'm sure would change the ability to fit, but I think 99.9% of people on here are running a stock exhaust with a V8. So...back to my original point, on their own website it states it won't fit with a (stock) V8 exhaust. I'd say that leaves the discussion still open (and Midol-less on this end : ).

I'd be in for Coyote, I'd wanted to go the route Mongo did but didn't want to BFH my exhaust..y assumption is a D1 & D90 V8 exhaust routing will be close enough to make it work.

Not debating that extra oil capacity is good (certainly from the standpoint of heat removal), but the idea of jacking the rear up when filling isn't just to put more oil in the case, it is to raise the oil level in the case, to help with splash lubrication to the input gear splines located toward the top of the case. Not sure that adding capacity will help with this, as the oil LEVEL will still be the same, no?

JASON - i'd be in. Wouldn't that sump be the lowest point in the TC? Would it make sense to put a drain plug in it if that is the case....not under the truck (of course ) but just asking.

winner winner chicken dinner mine has been overfilled since 40k miles, at almost 90k the input is perfect, as for the rest of the driveline well its a crapshoot

Or in my case, I know it will be low within a few months time due to parking brake lubrication---so I like to overfill it so there will be plenty of oil for the brake drum!

If this could also be designed to make the bottom of the tcase level with the ground and sturdy enough to provide a level surface so I can use a tranny jack without an adapter to install/remove the tcase, that would be worth it alone. maybe you could even incorporate some adapter features on the bottom to aid in tcase in jack usage.

And the expo thing to do is put a bottle opener on it. Come on now, keep up!
