I'm afraid of what they are coming up with.
x2 that was not what any of us were hoping to read. why bother even calling it a defender then?

It’s dead... after the reports of a unibody etc... this seals it... it will be a boring rehash of every other Land Rover model that is out there today... I can’t tell them apart anyway other than they come in small, medium and large...

I don't know how many people that wish they bought one when they could and wish they could have one now. Why not offer something in the same way Jeep does with the wrangler? Want to have 5 parked outside a starbucks instead of being used properly?

If the new Defender looks like this Ford Escape, our Birmabright bread boxes will increase in value...

I've had a Velar loaner for two weeks from our local stealership. Poor timing for the dealership as we've put almost 3500 miles on it in just over two weeks. I don't like all the plastic and the blind spots but I must say it is quick and a great turning radius.

If this is the new Defender, they should have stuck with the DC100. I think all the negative press around the DC100 made them say "well there is no way we can meet the expectation, so lets not even try".

That doesn't look anything like the spy shots showing up on car web sites today.

The one posted at the start of this thread has a completely different rear end than the one you posted. Can't compare the front end though.

There are clear photos of the other one showing the rear end here: https://www.autoblog.com/2017/12/01/...swb-spy-shots/

There is also a Jaguar spy shot going around that looks more boxy than either of these.

It's clearly pieced together based on the rear doors and rear wheel arches. I bet they are testing the 90 inch successor platform. One thing is clear... independent rear suspension.

The more I see that front end on every F'in new Rover the more I hate it. Sorry to hurt feelings of anyone actually paying real money for these new Rovers but you are fools. Complete garbage.

McGovern is giving one final middle finger to the last of the traditional Rover fans and loving it. In re-purposing the Defender, he has completed the Land Rover brand transition. There's no more wink-wink, we're still about our heritage anymore, its done. Land Rover is now a high end European Subaru more or less. I don't know why they bother with re-issuing Land Rovers like the Series I or Range Rover. Too bad they don't kill off the green oval badge while they're at it. I'd rather there be no connection.

and this guy Mcfall says

“Defender is about being the most capable and durable,” in the Land Rover lineup, while the Range Rover is about being “capable and refined.” “We won’t do it until it’s legitimate,” he reiterated. And thanks to Land Rover’s lineup covering a large part of the market already, from 500-plus horsepower muscle SUVs to $200,000 luxury machines it leaves the Defender lots of room in the lineup to be a true off-road machine without compromise.

“We’re going to do it, and you’ll like it,” finished Mcfall, a promise from JLR that we like.
