Jaguar Land Rover and BMW to extend alliance plans | Autocar

Very interesting as are the comments, having said that, there are no JLR quotes so might just be another leak at this stage?

JLR dont need BMW 4cyl Petrol/Diesel and 6cyl petrol they have just designed their own.

Without checking if bmw do a diesel 6 hybrid, it could be about that, along with the BMW V8 Petrol & Diesel.

So Land Rover is calling the 130 the "Definitive Explorer".

Wonder what Ford thinks of that?

This probably is worth an aside for those that ignore BR -

Somewhat odd. So is the Ingenium engine going to be abandoned already?

This may have something to do with it...

The government has handed Jaguar Land Rover a £500m loan guarantee to help accelerate its progress in the global electric vehicle race.

That is odd! What a waste of capital, but it wouldn’t be their first mistake. My guess is that maybe ingenium was too hyped and in reality couldn’t lean out to deliver power at the new emissions regs. That loan guarantee wasn’t a grant, so I’m guessing that they were in a pickle.

I read today that in fact BMW are interested to use the new JLR 6 in line in their vehicles and JLR are opening an engine plant in the English Midlands now that the Ford plant in Wales that they get engines from is slated to close in 2020.

Cheers

The Engine plant has been building Engines for some time. The Mild hybrid straight six version certainly caught people's attention when it was announced earlier this year.

I’m very skeptical of that side pic of the red vehicle. It looks like someone’s take on the image we saw from the dash graphics display. They would not have white letter BFGs, and the bottoms of the doors looks like how they dream it to be. Not sure what you are seeing in the front end, just looks like a glare to me.

I bet the red one in the latest pic is about 95% it. If you are skeptical, you are nervous.

Skeptical of the image itself. I think it is someone’s home-spun edit. Why include the silver thumbnail version? And do you really think LR would put white letter tires out on one of their own graphics?

I just honk I t is an edit of that original silver one.

Those that "ignore" don't deserve to see .

Due to to investment in Ingenium by JLR it would be highly unlikely anything is dropped, my guess its to do with diesel straight 6 and the bmw V8 which could have defender svx implications and also future mutual economies of scale (electric & fuel cell)

Having said that BMW and JLR's straight 6 petrol hybrid seem to be very very similar which is weird.

Has to be stated also this is just a "leak" no official quotes in that article.

Pretty spot on, its just a render based on the dash graphics, will probs look similar in body shape though imo.

Its a very lazy render by autocar imo

Jaguar reporting that they will use the new Defender as the platform for the new J-Pace.

I’ll hereby call it the new Santana.

Its not so much the defender platform, They are using MLA which I would say most of the JLR fullsize range will move too, defender being the first from memory. Supports EV and Fuel cell (first ive heard fuel cell being mentioned though.
