MAR The Mid Atlantic Rally Oct 3-6 Wheatland Farm

Come join ROAV for the MAR. As always rain or shine. We had three years of deluge under Bob Steeles presidency but the last two have been dry and sunny during Fireman Short's presidency.

Where: Hoges Orchard Ln Pembroke Va.
https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C...iz.8M0oYN-uEFI

Venue is a large meadow with primitive camping (porta johns provided). There are a myriad of hotels 12 miles away in Blacksburg if camping isnt your wifes thing. The Va Tech football game is away that weekend so there should be no issues with availability. The famous Mountain Lake Resort (where the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed) is @ the top of the mountain above the MAR site if thats of interest. They offer clay shooting, fine dining ets.https://www.mtnlakelodge.com/?gclid=...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

There is water @ our camping site that is plumbed down from a mountain spring all the way 3/4 up the mountain and is pressurized by the elevation change.
Club members have cut a large amount of firewood that is stacked around the site for campfires, most of it is wild cherry . I like running into the village of Pembroke and grabbing coffee and breakfast @ Cascades Cafe/Tangent Outdoors Tangent Outfitters | -- Your Guides to fishing the New River --
https://www.facebook.com/tangentoutdoorsandcascadecafe/

We are hosting what is being called "The Age of Enlightenment".
Bill Davis from Great Basin Rovers in Salt Lake City (GBR the green diff guy)
Bill Burke former Camel Trophy US team member and now off road driving and recovery instructor
Charlie Haigh- former Rovers North parts guy, Land Rover Roaring Fork parts guy, Land Rover Roanoke parts guy, and now self employed series on up rover repair guy.
These titans of the Rover world will be hosting a talk/question and answer session Saturday afternoon.
Rovers North will be hosting their annual non damaging trials course Saturday afternoon for those who want to test their driving skills set and compete.

For those unfamiliar with the venue, the camping is a meadow on one side of a valley separated by US Rt 460. The other side of the valley is the trail network. In years past access to the trails has only been in organized groups as two pastures have to be crosssed and gates kept closed so that cattle dont get out into the 4 lane highway. This year if you are present Thursday afternoon and attend a trail guide meeting and short session conducted by Bill Burke you will be certified to take others out with you- anytime.
The trail network on the mountain has been developed over the past 8 plus years and is now around 20 numbered trails with varying levels of difficulty from scenic to rock garden.
In addition to the private mountainside there are hundreds of miles of natl forest fire roads in the imediate area, some of which are part of the Appalachian Trail, for those who would prefer to just explore and not do any "wheeling". The tree's are just begining to turn the first weekend of October and the venue is always gorgeous. The area is known for its myriad of family friendly watersports and hiking options if your family doesnt share your need to take the rover offroad.

Saturday a barbeque dinner is offered under the Big Top tent and there is the annual raffle after dinner. I think this was catered by Mission Barbeque last year.

Sunday the trails are open again in the morning.

Put it on your calendar and come join us.
Registration is open. Register by Sept 15th to get the early bird discount.
Please pre order your Saturday night meal as well as t shirts for the clubs planning purposes.
Cheers,

Any chance I'll have a truck to take? Could make for a memorable trip flying in, picking up, camping and driving 1k miles back.

I’ve got to see if I can get drown for this. Hard with the boys being in school, the toddler at home and the wife traveling but I’ll try.

Either drive the Snatch down from VT or tow the DPV replica of Ambulance.

Officially called the Road Tax Vehicle Trials (RTVT), but often referred to as the RTV.

We are going to try and make it but trying to figure out logistics. Considering shipping the Tithonus there and back. Anyone have experience with doing that for this event?

Big thanks to Uncle Doug for helping to get the word out. (Work has me too busy lately for important things like Land Rovers!!)

I’ll NEVER forget sleeping in a tent that had 4 inches of water in it one year and as the sun began to rise hearing bagpipes in the distance made it all worth it. I believe it was R Davis’ kid playing but not sure. Priceless MAR memories.

In the old days, we would pack the family up and go.
Everyone had the best of all good times and would talk about it all year and start planning months ahead.
Then we started having to bring 2 vehicles so the kids friends could come as well.
One year we had 8 or 9 people.

That was a friends son, sort of like a nephew.

Hey everyone! Thanks for those that have registered. We are just shy of 100 trucks at the moment. We will have 2 more weeks of late registration online and then I will turn the registration page off so I can prepare registration packets. We will accept onsite registration for any that want to wait until the last minute.

AT THIS POINT..... The leading registered truck model is the Disco 2 at just 2 ahead of the Defender. The Series group is bringing up third place strongly. The only trucks not represented at the moment are the Freelander, Discovery Sport, and Velar. We have lots of time left before the event so these tallies and placing will likely change - but only if you register for the event!

T-Shirt

Raub -

Yes - we had some old/new help with T-Shirt design this year.

The benefit of this shirt is that if you get lost you can take your shirts off and follow the map to find your way back to camp!
