Im sure that his target audience has little to no prior Rover history and dont give two cents what an unmolested NAS looks like.

That said, I would say that HAVING a winch is poser style for 95% of people. And the target audience will not be wheeling this truck.

As do I, and most! Icon builds exceptional vehicles(I probably noted that 5 times the first time this was brought up) but I was hoping for more with this Defender build.

Having enjoyed looking over Icon's other trucks, this is entirely disappointing.

I nominate this one for Land Rover's That Suck contention.

Probably very true.

I will also add that some parts of this truck are beautifully done, with a typical ICON attention to detail. I would still drive it everywhere.

the other work ICON has done appears to capture the spirit of the original vehicle and enhance it and I have huge respect for that ability.

With the defender they missed the point of what the vehicle is for ... and in missing that they failed to execute the enhancement of the essence.

The only person I can see driving this is Kim Kardashian or someone of equal class and elegance.

It is a nice enough build, it just not worth the money.

For instance, they spent a massive amount of time and money building an incredibly basic dash. It looks fine and works, but I bet there is $50 k into that alone and it has no added functionality and looks only a bit different than stock. The bang for the buck is really poor.

The video makes me want him to go and drive a new Defender...... Strangely enough they still build them and they have evolved.

You have to appreciate the vision and build. Taste is to the eye of the beholder so let's not flog Jonathan Ward for making the attempt. Kudos for him. He will not lose any $$.
On a similar scale, one of the coolest street builds ever (yes, an overstatement, but many agree) is this V10 powered E30 M3 by Robbie Clements: http://www.carbuildindex.com/13213/b...er-motorsport/
Overnight it put is shop (Piper Motorsports) on the international map. Probably the same thing occurred for Jonathan and ICON after one if his earlier builds.
Great for these two guys to have the fortitude to turn their passion into a successful business.

Kudos to anyone who makes a living out of their passion ... I like the M3 build ... mainly because it maintains the essence of an M3 ... it's a sleeper-esq setup.

The Icon defender seems to have re-imagined parts for the sake of it .... I appreciate the build quality but think the vision of what it should / could be is lacking.

It is interesting that it is for all essential purposes a cosmetic enhancement of the vehicle.

I hope they keep an LT230 as fulltime 4wd is kind of a hallmark of the truck.
