Electronic Fuel Injection Control Unit

Anyone have a ERR4943 (14CUX) ECU/ECM for sale. I'm needing to pick one up for my 1994 Defender 90 (NAS) 3.9 liter.

These seem to have a new price around $4500!!

just find one from a D1 or a RR classic from a breakers

hint if you get one out of a RRC you won't have the 85mph fuel cut :). Try RoverDude - John Gadd as he usually has a few extras around.

Yeah because you regularly want to hit 85 plus is a defender.

My thoughts exactly. They still handle well at 85+ even without swaybars. It's not that you have to but someday you may need to when the zombies come.

Does transmission option matter when searching for an ECU out of a D1 or RRC?

No, they all work fine in my experience. The one thing you will run into is the outer case does not have tabs to mount to the bulkhead on a 93/94 if you get it out of a disco or RRC but you can swap your old case over.

If you have air conditioning it will sit in place pretty nicely above the air conditioning housing on the pass. side. I was able to drill the mounting tab to at least get one nut on.

The more important point I was trying to make in getting an ECU out of RRC or D1 is that you are not limited to solely searching for a 14CUX out of a Defender as you have the option to pick it out of a larger population of vehicles.

And yes down hill with a tail wind with your mirrors tucked in and a bean burrito to provide you a nice nitrous shot should get you over the 85 mph hump.
No they will do 85 on a straight away no problem with the 3.9. It is nice to know you have the ability to pass a slow moving truck. Uphill is another story

One last question I hope, and thank you for all the help... Does the "AMR####" number matter on the 14CUX ECU that I am looking for?

Not in any material sense.

4.2 and 3.9 both work fine. A cold start prom would be better I suppose, but who really cares.

Ron,
Do not all 14CUX come with a cold start prom? and not would you happen to know the different part numbers that do carry it - I may make you resort to the vault of microfische stashed in the basement

There have been so many updated PROMs I could not tell you and i dont have a list. (Maybe part of operation pride but i am not sure where those docs are). The last PROMs were the same for 4.2 and 3.9 (believe it or not) Although those were sold years after. Usually there will be a sticker on the outside of the ECU showing it was updated with cold start (my 94 had one). I have never had an issue on 14CUX with cold start and I have probably run a dozen different ECUs over the years. Only on GEMS have I had an issue.

I've posted the 14cux PDF loads of times. The various tunes are listed in the back.

Uncle Douglas August 29th, 2013 07:53 PM

I have a 14cux for a 3.9 in the bottom drawer of one of my tool chests. If there's interest I'll dig it out and post the part no. Just been keeping it as a trouble shooting spare but that need hasn't materialized.

I have many of them for sale. And I am local to you.

Do you run the Ty's diner ?

rover26c August 29th, 2013 09:05 PM

Sorry no clue. What is the stock ECU for a 1994 Defender 90 (NAS) 3.9 liter? So replacing it with a 14cux will improve your driving up to 85 mph?

attached document lists all the 14CUX tunes - it also has diagnostics .... for those that don't believe in witchcraft and voodoo as valid troubleshooting techniques.

the 85mph is a speed limiter that prevents a defender going over 85mph funnily enough.

Speed limiter is 89 I thought.
