Yes, I am building the truck from the ground up. 100 inch wheel base "Franken-Defender".
I have a super solid chassis and several axles (both Rover and Dana 60-70-80's) already. I will modify the frame then have it dipped/stripped and galvanized.
Parts for the body are slowly being procured (have many already) and will also be stripped and sealed either with multi-stage paint or very possibly galvanized if steel.
I have several trans and motor combos to chose from - Chebby LT1, Rover 4.2, a little too big a Cummins - LOL, Marine VW 5 cyl TDI, a couple other less impressive diesels (6.2 and 6.5T GM) and a few misc Vortec GM 4.3 5.0 5.7 motors. Transmissions I have 4L80, 700R4, NV4500, NV3500, Allison auto (with a partly burned 8.1 GM in front of it that *may* be OK?) also a couple Rover automatics and one LT77.
Have a set od wheels with new tires already. Have much of an interior bits too.
I want a solid 100% gone over Defender with NO issues. I am tired of looking at crusty stuff. While the parts I am gathering are not perfect, they will be cleaned up and made "as new" again. My time while valuable is not an issue in this as I simply want to do it and it's my after hours "hobby" if you will..... the way i look at it it's still FAR cheaper and easier than a mistress.
