The beauty, besides never changing bulbs and the "no draw" factor (and they fact they look awesome) is they are 100% sealed...no more water in the lenses.

Are these lights a 100% drop in? No changes to the wire harness, no added relays, no black boxes, etc.? Just plug and play? What is the downside besides their cost?

Yes, no modifications (no boxes) whatsoever. Plug and play and much better light output. Cost (which isn't terrible) is the only downside I've seen so far after running them for 6 months. Highly recommend upgrade.

Since these are sold.

FYI...anyone else looking I ordered the same ones from here:

http://www.drivetrainamerica.com/p-2...-tj-yj-jk.aspx

Pure plug and play and nice improvement over stock.

Thanks - sounds like a lot of light for the price.

It is.

Somewhere on the web there is a comparison of all the "alternative" 7" Round lighting systems out there.

For the money it was an easy upgrade and world of difference at night.

Will these shine as intensely and have sharp shadows like the HD lights on the LR3? Assuming the draw will be so low it is no longer needed to install a flasher to bypass the current from and to extend the life of the factory switch. Savings there.

I dont think I would call them sharp shadows. We may be saying the same thing, but I think these lights similar to HID projectors have a very defined end to the spectrum and where they shine. like you could draw a line in the sand on where it goes from light showing to no light. That is because the intensity and focus is so great compared to standard bulbs in my experience.

Thanks and great job describing what I tried but couldn't do. Will add these lights to my wish list for year.
