May I make a suggestion here?

(this is based on experience with SS in the marine environment)

SS needs oxygen to remain stainless. Once it depletes the oxygen in an enclosed environment (such as a SS screw in a wooden hull below the waterline), it begins corroding.

Would powdercoating SS actually reduce the life of the unit? I think that powdercoating a simple steel unit is a great idea, but powdercoat over SS would seem bad belt-and-suspenders approach that could backfire.

Next question: can one of these lights be rigged on a RRC w/o looking idiotic? I'd like to have a worklight behind the truck for late nights in the winter field (surveying). Any examples?

It will be just like the Safari Guard unit. Steel bracket with backing plate powdercoated in semi gloss black. No hardware. No light. You are on your own for that stuff, I am just going to get the bracket made up. I know that lots of people liked this piece when SG was offering it, but now that it isn't available the demand has grown. So, as a payback to all my friends here I thought I would try to get one reproduced and offer it (no profit, just what it costs). I feel like I owe the forum something and this is just a small way to give back.

Stainless would be too expensive, and I don't think these guys work much with stainless anyway.
I am going to get it all together this week and let everyone know what the final cost will be. Then, I will put everyone who wants one on the list and get things rolling. I think we have around 11 people so far, so I will get around 15 made.

If you look at SG's install doc, it looks like the only possible hang-up would be the type of light you decide to install. I'm not a fan of the matador worklamp, I plan on using a Hella HID Work Light.

Worst case scenerio, you put it up for sale...

I'm in for a bracket please. If anyone is interested in PIAA lamps, I can supply board members at a wholesale price.

Hi, Shawn:

I am interested in one as well, as long as it will work with the rear ladders of the SG or UO rack.

Thanks,
D Jarrett

The mounts were made today. I will pick them up tomorrow and take them to powdercoat.

Alright, the plates are at the powdercoater. The total ended up being $5.00 more than I had anticipated, so they are going to be $40 plus shipping. I hope this is okay with everyone, I had to pay a little more than I thought for the powdercoating. I would say that $50 total will get it to your doorstep.
You can paypal me at:
dpalmer@applecreekusa.com

Just be sure to include your D90.com screen name so I can take your name off the list. I only have 20, so be sure to get this done ASAP. They will mail out at the end of next week. You will like them, they look great.
