I installed one in my '97 ST about 9 years ago and have never regretted it. Got a deal from dealer for about $400. With OEM head unit, it's absolutely plug and play. Installed by myself in a couple hours.

How much does this enhance the sound in the acoustically unfriendly environment of the ST?

If that's what you're out for, then go for what I did (posted earlier in the thread). These OEM units are not "meant" to get wet, or at least did not hold up well to the elements.

I run a surrey Spring through Fall and have no trouble hearing the system at speed. I have factory head unit, allowing to adjust sub separately. It can thump plenty. If you find one, I recommend buying. The door finisher itself adds a huge amount to the look of the tailgate. You lose just a bit of storage behind the seat, but the seat folds and tips when you haul stuff.

Received my subwoofer today ;-) , speaker cone was toasted from dry rot :-( . Dam nos. I ordered a new one, but half temped to keep it and replace the subwoofer with an new Alpine subwoofer. How did everyone else make out. I was told the seven were ordered the same day I bought mine.

------ Follow up post added July 30th, 2015 07:50 PM ------

Wondering if JQ11 still have the original subwoofer in your tailgate card?

This post is seriously useless without some pics.

When I opened the box I saw all this black dust and I knew I was in trouble. The black dust is all that remains of the foam surround that connects the speaker cone to the speaker basket. I guess thats to be expected for sitting on a shelf for 20 years. Let me know how others have made out. The bright side is the rest is in perfect shape.

Mine was new in box with bubble wrapping still over the sub so yea I'd say original subwoofer - only opened the box to take the pics.

I would have just replaced with a new current speaker, pretty sure speaker technology has improved in 20 years

just have a shop install a newer sub and re-wire it. the original ones were junk anyhow.
install a JL / alpine but it will need to have the wiring updated.
