Regarding Willh's recent question, when I took the photos the top was attached on the driver's side, and therefore is pulled to the left, resulting in the passenger side not connecting. The problem is with the front portion (that runs behind the heads of the passenger and driver, I am not sure of the correct nomenclature) of my roll bar. The top does not touch the rear of the roll cage.

The vehicle has never been hit, rolled, etc. The damage to the passenger side of the top has not been repaired as it just happened as the body shop tried to put the top on.

I've actually seen some hardtops there were black and they weren't painted. They had a vinyl covering on them like the covering on the 94 door panels. I can't imagine that those owners added that. Maybe just a few test anomalies that never made it to full production?

In the case of that damage...I'd take the truck somewhere else. It doesn't seem like this body shop knows what they are doing. Who tries to force something together like that using screws?

Have you gone over there to see if there is something impeding the top from sitting down on that side? I know this top can be hard to get on, believe me, I've done plenty of cursing the few times I put it on my truck but the amount that is sitting up on the passenger side is very odd.

Just went back and re-read and I see that you went down there. Have you checked to see that the top is sitting correctly in the channel of the B-pillar horn? That that part that connects the external cage to the inside if the truck. It's right at the back of the front window. If that's not seated down correctly then I can see how the back would be so high.

I don't have a clue what was going on with the top, except for the fact that the CENTER of the inside portion of the top that is over the roll cage is touching the cage. I probably could have shaven the foam down to the metal and it would have fit, but I was not about to do that. I will attach some photos I just took of the cage.

For what it is worth, I have attached some photos that I just took to show the roll cage.
Thanks,
Dirk

When I looked at the top when after the body shop had given up on trying to put it on, the problem was (appeared to be) with the center of the roll bar hitting the inside of the center of the top. I am relatively mechanically inclined and it appeared to me that the center of the front bar on my roll cage is too high. The sides did not appear to be at issue.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was with the top? I am looking for a hardtop now and would rather avoid problems if I ever find one.

I think my top must have been for 1994-1995 models only. The guy I sold it to did not have the same problems that I had with my 97. I am relatively certain that my rollbar (which is bone stock) caused the problem.

When I bought my D90 in march of 1994 they came or with the hard top option late that year or maybe even 1995 they only came in grey I paid $2,200.00 at the time.. I have taken mine on and off many times by myself. I have not put it back on for maybe 7 years or so. I find its not worth the effort and prefer the soft top or the Bimini top .just my two cents.
