They'll keep people from getting too close to my wing-mounted exhaust and burning themselves.

Isnít that the truth. I try to stay clear of door ding prone situations (coupes, trucks, windy days that cause doors to behave like suicide doors and loose shopping carts to go flying, etc) and stick close those island medians. About to pull out of Costco the other day, when a BMW X6 M pulls in to a spot fast and tight on my passenger side. I didnít move to give this obviously impatient DB an opportunity to get out of his car. Then I hear a nice solid thud. The guy gets out, looks at his door, then looks at me as if it was my fault, but quickly cooled off and was pissed at himself. I sort of wanted to get out to see how large a dent the nerf bar on the rock slider put into the edge of his door, but I knew I would have laughed to hard. Probably a good $2500 worth of thud.
