Help! Stuck in Lincoln Nebraska with a broken transmission!

Hello guys,

Short version:
lt77 suffix E is shot we are in Lincoln Nebraska and need to service it as we live 2000 miles away. It's behind a 200tdi (disco). We could rebuild the existing unit/ have it rebuilt locally or I'm trying to find a ''new'' one right now that's good to go.

Questions

Should I rebuild or swap it? A quick diagnostic leads us to believe that the primary or countershaft bearing is shot. More on that tomorrow

If I swap should I go for an LT77 or R380?

Do you know a garage or anyone in the area (we could have the truck towed in a 95 miles radius, like Omaha)

Long version

I hardly ever post here as I wanted to put my truck through its paces before writing on here but am in a little bit of a pickle.

First off the Rover: It's an 87' 110 CSW, we swapped the stock 2.5TD to a rebuilt 200TDI in the last few months. It has an lt77 suffix ''E''.

We are currently taking the truck on a road trip from Montreal Quebec to California and back, our way of test driving the beast. This puts me 2000 miles away from home. Considering that the 110 had not run in a few years the bearings probably spotted. We pulled over when we had that awesome burning oil smell and had our self towed to Lincoln Nebraska. We think that the bearing on the primary shaft or counter shaft are shot.

We booked a room at Holiday's inn, they have an interior parking with lighting. We have a pretty extensive toll kit and have good mechanical skills. We've pulled some worst stunts in the past and think we could swap a rebuilt gearbox with the tools at hand. We don't think we could rebuild the existing unit and would need to have it done locally.

Right now we need two things!!

First: Names or a place to go in Lincoln, a garage, someone anything or anyone that could help us out!

Second: to compare both options (rebuilding the one we have or swamping it out for another unit), a source for a gear box, preferably state side or in the UK that could air ship it/get it here quick!

On that gents, it's beer'O'clock

I was stuck in Lincoln NE a few years ago and I went to a place downtown called Economy and Performance. They are in a building in downtown Lincoln and they take your truck to the upper level in an elevator. They also work on all euro vehicles. I had good luck with them and they had me on the road quickly. Their phone number is 402-435-1326.

Don't you own a LR repair shop or is it just an Internet cafe with a bunch or Camel Trophy crap decorating it?

Forgot to mention, a six pack of BPR or your choice of fine beverage awaits any gear head in the area!

Also many thanks for the info. Lincoln turns out to be a pretty cool town. Will post photos of the whole ordeal, if we can't find any shops tomorrow we might install the new shocks and springs, might as well do something.

Is BPR French Canadian for "PBR?" ;-) It might be worth it just to find out! Just messing with ya! You chose the right community for advice and assistance and I wish you the best with the repair and the trip! Someone will know someone that will have a connection or a garage that can help. What part of CA are you touring?

For the PBR, peut-Ítre que oui, peut-Ítre que non! haha

We will figure it out, with the guys on here I'm positive we will find help! As for Cali, were heading down to LA to pick up a roof rack, after that, we have no plan whatsoever! I'll be back in March for steelhead runs in Ureka though!

heres a quick pic of Charles/Fubar, not sure what to name it yet!

Safari HP in Orlando has a recently rebuilt lt77 they took out of a truck they built up, they offered it up earlier today in Daves thread where he broke the case on his LT77. Betting Stephen could get it on the way to you via fedex ground tomorrow.
