Was speaking with John at Croytec about the black anodized aluminum hinges and he remind me that the owners of 1/2 doors or split doors (soft tops, and early '83,'84 station wagons ) would need a smaller top hinge to fit with the door/ body capping's. So anyone that might be interested in the aluminum hinges we need to compile a list or number of those who have 1/2 doors and those with push button full doors.

Kinda cool they noticed. Most would gcw the fatter hinge and expect people to cut the capping. It's not hard but this obviously is easier.

Croytec is developing a hinge just for the split door (so you don't have to pull the capping and cut it (removing the protective galvanized capping coating) just to fit a hinge that wont rust.

Croytec
developed this prototype smaller hinge for the US and older style doors which we can develop into stock I just thought now would be the time to consider which was best and that would fit all models without modification. Attached a picture of a part machined block by the hinge on their NAS so you can see exactly what we mean. The hinges would be exactly the same as there current ones with the grease nipple and bushes etc otherwise and anodizing black is no problem.

We worked with John a year ago to develop that hinge. Images of one of the ones he made for us next to one of his other hinges. John has a NAS90 ST so that made it easy for him to size it. I have a set of 4 of these with no home if anyone wants to mess with them.
Its a great hinge, however, there are issues:
1. being the hardware. It now has to be specific to the hinge. You can't use normal hardware s the hinge is just different enough. No big deal, but a consideration.
2. the shape of the hinge does not match the shims/spacers used on a SIII/ NAS 90ST, so now you have nice alloy hinges, but your shims don't work. You would now need to get new shims made and/or cut down the Td5 style shims to work with the new alloy NAS hinges as its exterior shape is not the same shape as the SIII/ NAS 90 ST hinge. Images attached of what a stock SIII/NAS 90 ST shim looks like with the new hinges.

It was at this point where ECR gave up and now we just install the Td5 style alloy hinges and trim the door capping a little as it seemed like the fix caused more problems than it solved.
I would love to see John copy the SIII/NAS 90 hinge exactly, but last year he was not able to do that. Perhaps he can now, or perhaps I am just too picky and other places don't care if the shims don't line up or match.

Attached are also some other images from Fall of 2010 when John was working on this project with us and a nice shot of his NAS 90 in the UK for fun.

Safari rover always has take off hinges. I did that for my 110. Cheap and easy.

Hey Chris,
I have a 97 D-90 hard top with the one piece doors. So, would the black anodized hinges work on mine? If so I would like to get a set of them, but if it is easier for the group buy to just get the aluminum hinges that is okay. Thanks, Tim

All 90's, 110's and 130's with 1 piece doors and roll up windows would work with the current Aluminum (TD5 style) hinges (black or natural), the only the rigs with 2 piece doors (sliding, side curtain, window tops) would benefit from the smaller Series / NAS hinge do to the caping on the door tops.
