Free 109 SW Fuel Tank in NOVA

All:

Is one man's trash another's treasure?

I have the original 109 SW fuel tank sitting in the back of the Stage 1. It was not leaking, but caused painful rust in fuel issues for me.

It might be able to be reconditioned, but I did not have time to screw with it, so I bought a new tank.

BTW, it is full of diesel fuel...so if you have one of those heaters that burn any fuel, you might be able to use it.

Free for pick-up only in NOVA. I'll check this thread but it is best to email me at jpandlp@cox.net.

I do not know if this is the same as ROW D90, but it's yours if you want it!

------ Follow up post added November 5th, 2012 09:08 PM ------

Hey Tony! I hope the 110's doing well...yes, it hurts throwing away a tank of diesel, but it doesn't hurt as much as a non-running Rover! You should have seen the "little electric fuel pump that couldn't" after clogging up with rust...

So far, so good. I've been driving it a lot lately. Found a lot of warts on that rear chassis when the tank was out. I'll try and preserve the chassis as much as possible, and in a few years, she'll need a chassis.

By then, probably the only thing that's going to look Stage 1 will be the bonnet and grill. I envision a 200 or 300 Tdi with R380, but I'll keep the leafs!

I have 5 fairly good sized aluminum marine tanks sitting around. I could cut those up and make a very nice tank. Anyone know how to weld aluminum? Tho, I guess I could flange the seams and glue them with 5200....hmmm...

If this is a true Stage One fuel tank - then it is different than the 4cyl petrol fuel tank becasue it has one extra return pipe fitted to the top of the tank. The Stage One fuel tank (V8) is teh same as teh 4cyl diesel but not the petrol - all to do with that return pipe.

As stated - it is not a bolt in fit to a Defender application.

Mine rusted out and started leaking a few years ago and required a replacement.

Thanks Charles, but apparently it doesn't fit.

I'm still keeping my eyes open for a cheap ROW tank to pop up somewhere.

Maybe I'll do that! The tanks are all 1/8 thick I think.

Sorry for the delay responding.

Well, a new standard 109 SW tank worked in the Stage 1, and David is correct, it needed an extra tap. That said, it should work for you, Bill, as you can either plug the extra line tap or run another vent.

Let me know. I did get your message, and I will respond via email, as well. I need to get plugged into the happy hours, but in case I can't make it, if there's anyone who would like to drop by and transport it for you, that's fine, too.
