Feeler: 1987 Tithonus 110 (sort of) rolling chassis w/ 2.5NA, LT77, and LT230

I'm going to be doing a chassis and motor swap on my Tithonus truck in a few weeks. I will have a (sort of) rolling chassis complete with motor, gearbox and t-case to sell.

Here's the deal:

- Frame VIN is not included.

- Motor has approximately 54,000 km (~34,000 mi) on it, I think. That's what the odometer says. The Tithonus program included a motor rebuild and I don't know if they reset the odometers when they rebuilt. I suppose it could have even less. Motor runs beautifully. I drove this truck from Houston to Seattle mostly offroad and it never gave me any issues. Doesn't seem to have anything beyond typical very minor fluid seepage, either, but no promises.

- Motor ancillaries that are 2.5NA specific are included. Radiator, injection pump, etc. Non-specific things like my heater box are not. My 300Tdi is being built up with all brand-new ancillaries so there may be additional parts that will be sold with this package here.

- I assume that the LT77 and LT230 were rebuilt at the same time as the motor but I don't know for sure.

- Frame appears to be waxoyl'ed and appears to be in good shape. Nothing beyond surface rust that I can see.

- I may or may not have driveshafts included. Probably will.

- Running gear (axles, radius arms, shocks, rear links, brakes, tires, wheels, etc.) are not included because I need them for my rebuild. I want this to be sold as a roller so we'll need to source some el cheapo take-offs for you and you'll have to pay for them or provide them yourself. Shouldn't be very expensive, though. One junkyard D1 would probably have everything you need.

- Ideally, you would come to Defenders Northwest in Gig Harbor, WA to pick this up. Otherwise, we can build it up to a roller and you can find someone on UShip to put it on a flatbed and bring it to you.

- These are used parts. I really do think they're in great shape and if I had a place to keep them, I'd keep it and build up a 110 for my son someday, but being military and moving a lot, I can't keep it around. Still, there is no warranty whatsoever. Caveat emptor. I'm happy to let you inspect the parts or drive the truck (before the rebuild) if you come out here.

- I should have this ready to ship by no later than mid-March. Earlier if you want to come out here and get everything together. Once it's ready, you're going to need to get it moved out of Brian's shop pretty quickly.

Price to be determined but will be very fair. Post up if you're interested.

So I've had some requests for parting out.

That might be a possibility. I have someone who might want the frame and someone else who definitely wants the LT77 and maybe the LT230.

If I could find someone who wants the 2.5NA (and damn, it really is in sweet shape), this could happen.

Damn. If I wasn't married and didn't have three vehicles already, this roller would be my new 110 hi-cap for lumber yard runs.

How about $1100?

You pay shipping and wood for crating if it's needed. If Brian hasn't scrapped the 300Tdi crate and if it fits, I can just put it in that. There are lots of motor freight companies around Tacoma so it should be easy to ship cost effectively.

The LT77 and LT230 are now spoken for. So....if fraser buys the motor and Streaky buys the frame, we have ourselves a part-out deal.

Chris, except for the LT77 and LT230, nothing is paid fuhh. You're on the list now. I'll give streaky and fraser a few days to make their decisions and then we'll go to alternates.

OK, frame is available once again. PM if interested.

I'll give Fraser another couple of days to decide on the motor.

Hi Fraser,

For estimation, use 98406. I think Brian Hall has a flat bed trailer and we could probably get it to a freight depot if that makes it more affordable. Most of the freight depots are around Fife, WA. That's where FedEx Freight is, anyway.

I'm not sure of the weight of the 2.5NA and the box but I can get back to you. A search on this site might find what you're looking for, as this has probably been done before. I don't have the crate in front of me (I'm down in San Francisco for the week) but perhaps Brian Hall can respond, if he's reading this.

I'm asking $750 for the frame, $1100 for the motor. Gearbox and t-case are sold unless I can't part out the frame and motor, in which case I will have to work out a deal for the whole package.

For comparison, we just got a 2.8 delivered to the shop in roughly a 3 foot cube crate on top of a pallet. It weighs 780 lbs.

Chris

I'm bowing out on the motor, all up cost would be too much for what I'm looking for.

Thanks anyhow

Cheers

And finally back up for air…

No crate for the motor, but easy enough to build one for $60 or so. 3' cube is about right on dims - ~700lbs depending on what all goes into the crate. Ship from 98332 (pickup) or we can move to SeaTac (Fife or Port of Tacoma) to a hub.
