Defender PTO

I opened it up, cleaned, greased, and resealed it. All looks great.

Complete with output shaft, and engager rod (a simple hole and bushing in the passenger side battery box front wall is all that's needed).

It bolts in place of the rear cover plate on the LT230. You do need to check if you have the star on the back side of your transfer case input gear (by removing same rear cover plate.

not sided from what I've read. Gotta get rid of the stuff piling up.

$500? OBO!

Interesting piece!

What's in the red thing, some sort of clutch?

Also to help the sale, this appears to be a fairey/superwinch PTO from the mechanical winch.

I need this like I need a brain injury, but I am interested anyways.

Has anyone seen pics of one installed? I am not sure if it would actually fit around my driveline.

Yes. It sits behind the LT230 and hangs down a good bit, the complication I would think you would have would be clearing the motor going forward with a driveshaft. It won't fit on an NAS v8 you have to use the weird early manifolds to make it fit with a V8. On a four cylinder it has plenty of space.

That's my concern. I don't think it would fit, the clutch linkage is on that side and it takes up all of the room between the trans and the bellhousing. I'll try and find some pics online but it doesn't look good.

Is a cover for what looks like a torque clutch - ball ratchet type, so you cant dead head the pto. Not sure what the torque rating is. It rotates when the PTO is engaged, so it would serve as an indicator - not that the rotating output shaft doesn't serve for that too.

You can totally make this work - you just add u-joints to the output shafting and route it wherever you need. Maybe up to the roof for that merry-go-round you've always wanted.

- and thanks Ron for adding that info. I've never tried, but I suppose there is literature out there for it somewhere.

I am going to pass. Eyeballing of my driveline, I am not confident that it would fit.

Good luck with the sale. This would be a cool toy. PTO powered firepit rotisserie!
