Why such haste for the old style metal key that is a bitch to get cut...?

Why not get the new key?

They have it at the place on the picture OR RN sells them for $32. Just got one and it's the new metal so anywhere will cut it. Nice key too, much better than the old one...

Well... All we have around here is Lowe's, ACE Hardware, True Value and Home Depot off the top of my head, and they won't cut this key. Let me know.

Oh, I just paid $32 from RoversNorth about a week ago and works just fine.

Why is one key easier to cut than the other?

Because the old style keys are a much harder metal that most places won't cut because it shreds their key-maker to bits... Whereas the new one is made of the upgraded alloy which can be cut anywhere.

Honestly, I have an old key blank somewhere and never got it cut... I'm sure there's some place that will do it, but not most. At least not here.

Old keys are made of steel. I got mine cut at ace hardware, no issues.

They will not shred key machines, but they will not work in an automated machine. It has to be a manual cutter.

Fyi all bmw keys in the us up until 1992 were steel

A real locksmith will cut it. Any shop that cuts a Medco key will cut this one.....
