defender engine and trans assy for sale..

Here is a great little setup for a d-90 or even a series truck...this engine and trans assy was pulled out of a prefectly running 1983 defender 110 to do a V8 swap...its a 5 speed trann and the engine pured like a kitten...low miles on it...around the 70,000 mark but I can't remember kilometers or miles...$2000 plus shipping although due to the size I would prefer local pickup...I can palletise it if you wanna have it picked up or shipped...

This box fitted to a disco 200 would leave the shifter in the correct pace, right? I think . . .

Not if I remember correctly (been a while since I saw inside a Disco 200). The shifter and the high/low levers are reversed vs. a defender set up. In Shayne's pics above this is a Defender set up with the high/low at the back.

You can use the box but you have to have the disco shifter housing and set up to swap onto it.

Edit - Don't remember the early 200 D1s (ROW only not NAS) being different to the later 300 series (NAS are all 300s) so the below pic of my 96 should be what you are looking to do.

Defender gearboxes have he transfer high low lever behind the gearshift lever...discos and range rovers have it in front of it...so it would not leave it in its correct position without some serious mods... Sorry...

From what I have heard (not tried it myself) it's not that hard if you have the right bits. Unbolt and swap as far as I know (correct me if I am wrong somebody?), but you need the levers for the high/low shifter to the t-case as well I think. Pic is of a D1 shifter set up already off the box that I have kicking around. I have another one as well on a truck thatís being parted.

Problem is that as far as I know all NAS D1s came with R380 boxes and I do not know if the same shifter assembly can be used on an LT77??

If you can confirm it will work I am willing to sell one of the full shifter set ups I have if its needed?

Edit - Shayne you should recognise the pic...

I should have been more clear, sorry. The 110 I'm bringing in has the 200tdi conversion using a disco motor and r380 transmission, consequently the shifter is sitting too far back already. I'd love to find a defender lt77 or r380 to put it back in the stock location or sort out how difficult it would be to change the necessary parts on the disco r380 that's in there.

Tony, you'll have to take a look at my install. I have a Disco 200tdi and everything fits fine, just the position of the shifters is reversed.

Got a picture? It appears many with the disco shifter report that it's actually more comfortable. Frankly I'd just like a center console which may be difficult. What've you got?

Sure. The key is mounting the motor farther forward, which they may not have done on your conversion. My shifter comes up right in front of the Tuffy console. It's very comfortable as my arm can rest on the console - I even kept the Disco shifter knob. Also note that Disco shifter bends back and then comes up through the floor, so you can gain a few inches by simply welding in a vertical shifter - like I did.
