Defender '87 diesel 2.5 turbo motor

Hello
I just replaced the stock 2.5 diesel in mine for the intercooled 200 TDi (well actually, David at Urban Land Cruisers did it, and he did a great job of it). This motor had about 170,000 miles on it and ran fine. Attached is a fuzzy camera-phone pic of it but I can email you a HD video of it running in the truck, cranked from a cold start, that I shot just before it was professionally removed.
I don't know much about the details of the motor, but David could tell you about it, as could my mechanic here in Birmingham, Alabama.
I'm asking $1,000, which includes all of the ancillaries David removed. You'd have to pay shipping.

Regards
(you can email directly xjr13 at attglobal.net )

Good deal if the engine is in good shape and all is well with it. Good luck with the sale.

Why did you replace it with a 200Tdi?

Thanks for the kudos Jack..it was a sweet project.

Here is the link to the motor swap; it is not fully posted yet but you can see the old motor and the overall condition of it.

https://picasaweb.google.com/davidur...t=embedwebsite

We did a compression test:
1. 460
2. 400
3. 400
4. 380

This was on a semi warm motor that had been sitting, non running for a while. I think valve adj would go a long way to getting the numbers more even.

We ran the motor as well with no issues prior to removing it.

There was normal oil leaks but nothing serious.

I would have no trouble running this motor in my truck and Jack and I did try to figure out a good way for me to keep this but it was not in the cards!

We can provide and install 200 and 300 tdi. Installation varies but generally a 2.5 to 200tdi will run about $1500-$1900 + parts/materials.

To reply to the earlier post...I put a 200TDi in it because my goal is maximum MPG & I'd heard that was the best motor to do it with, & because David happen to have a 2000TDi in good shape & also had the A-pillar pieces I needed to repair my bulkhead. It worked out great. You should see the welding work they did on the bulkhead too. I'm sorry to have to cover it with fenders!

Hmmmm I need to do some bulkhead repair too. Atlcruiser, what ball park to weld the repair pieces on the upper corners as well as the lower rail sections? Of course I know you'd need to see but just looking to see the projected cost.

2.5 NA diesel motor for sale

The buyer from Memphis & the one from Atlanta both backed out due to financial reasons. It's for sale again. Let me know if interested.

I can also throw in the transfer case. I think it's the original 1.2?

Jack
