D90 DI Freestyle Tornado Alloy Wheels Set of 4

I have a very nice set of four alloy wheels taken from a 1999 Series 1 Discovery. They are the same as the alloys found on D90's. There is very little curb rash and the shine is still good. Complete with center caps. Any dirt seen in the photos will be cleaned before they are packaged.

Bumped for comparison to the TWR wheels I have for sale.

I do not believe these are Tornados.

Is it a matter of part number or is there a physical difference between the Freestyle/DI and Tornado/D90 wheel? I've sold an awful lot of these wheels to D90 owners over the years without issue.

That was my impression, again, from selling an awful lot of them to D90 owners over the years. But, I'm curious to hear from Bob Davis about the differences between the two.

People call them different names.

Robert,

Tornados and Freestyle are are the same...

Dunno why they have two names

Look, I know that because of my low post count on this board, a lot of people here think I'm a recent arrival to Land Rovers. In fact, I have owned Rovers, new and used for going on 25 years. I've been selling parts for Land Rovers fulltime for over 15 years. In fact, back in December of 1992 I was the first person in the US to put money down on an Alpine White D90 at Land Rover World in Glen Cove, NY. Back then, when I put my deposit on the truck the photos I saw indicated the truck would be coming in with steel wheels like the old Series trucks (of which I have owned as well). When the truck arrived at the dealership there was $1400 tacked on to the $27,999 list price for the Tornado wheels.

Oh, and I apologize if calling Robert, Bob was inappropriate. I was unaware. Sorry!

Didn't mean to derail your thread Paul... I've bought parts from you probably for half those years.

My appoololgies

No need for apologies and thank you for any business you've given me over the years.

I just would love to hear the difference between the wheel I have here for sale and the wheel that was on the D90.

I know, for example that the 1994 and 1995 RRC LWB had the Cyclone wheels. But, there was a difference between the two years in that the 1994 wheel was finished in "Anthracite" or dark silver whereas the 1995 was finished in "Sparkle Silver" a lighter, brighter silver. Mixing the two on a vehicle would be odd. Is that the sort of difference Robert was alluding to?

Again, I've sold at least few of dozen sets of these wheels over the years (to DI, RRC and D90 owners) without a complaint.

The part number in the book for chassis TA998910 and up is the same as what is cast into the wheel shown above.

What's funny is if you look them up in microcat, it says you must have front and rear anti sway bars to fit them as an accessory.

I'm dying to hear why Robert Davis said "I do not believe these are Tornados."

It makes sense that the part number is from 1999 on. The DI was a 1999 MY SD.

was something to do with the freestyle package so the name stuck with the wheels, I do believe.

This makes sense. Microcat calls them tornado whether you look them up from a Defender or a Disco.

So I was correct in calling these wheels by their Defender Tornado name. I've called them by that name for years. This was the first time anyone ever challenged me on the name.

I hate to clutter up your for sale thread, but it's pretty cluttered right now anyway.... I found that there are different colors of these wheels out there:

It's not unlike the colors that were offered for the Range Rover Classic LWB in 1993 when the five spoke was done in body color. Nevertheless, that has no impact on the fact that the wheel I have listed here is a Tornado.
