Custom Roof Rack & Ladder $1800

I am selling the first prototype of my roof rack design. It's heavy duty and made from 1 1/2" tube steel. Comes with a Hi-Lift mount in the rear, and a shovel & axe mount on the side. I designed it to fit a 1.2m roof top tent. The rear ladder assembly only requires drilling one 7/16" hole in your crossmeber, all other mounting points utilize stock mounting holes. Comes with the basket, ladder, 2 front cross bars, and mounting hardware. It fits a ST with soft top or fiberglass top just fine. Not sure about SWs, but it should.

I prefer local pickup as this would be a bitch to ship. Although I could build a crate (sounds like fun) and ship via truck freight.

Asking $1800. I can have it powdercoated locally for $500, but the paint I use is pretty tough so I wouldn't worry about it.

Email/PM if interested.

Will the rack line up with the Stock ladder system. If so how much for just the rack?

The rack would be $800 by itself. It should line up with the SD ladder, and you would need to use their cross bars as well. I can build you a custom rack if you want, especially if you already have a ladder. Just leave your 90 with me for a day or two.

Wow, you just said that in public? Uh, that's a negative. Shipping would be about $400 in my estimation, so you want me to take an $800 hit? I'll pass. Dude, you live 80 miles from me, spend $30 in gas and come get it.

I guess I need to put serious buyers only - and PM or email me if interested.

It's a nice looking and well made rack, Jonathan. I'd be interested had I not just bought one of the SD units recently imported.

Getting ready to make yourself another one? What changes will you incorporate, if so?

I am going to make the basket slightly wider, and adjust the bends around the license plate.

You can return the SD rack if you like, no problem at all.
We have a long list of people who missed out.

I do not check PMs. Call or email if you need something.

ECR is not a parts source. We are not in the mail order business.

I am sure those things are like gold. I imagine someone might be able to make a profit there.

Three sure investment bets: Gold, Guns, and SD racks.

I've yet to see anyone make cross-bars and a ladder I like as well for the Defender as the SD rack which looks fantastic... on the other hand... never been a fan of the basket which just looks odd...

In any case I'm REALLY looking forward to the arrival of my SD rack tomorrow!! (thanks ECR)

I'll have to see how I feel about the basket once I get the whole thing installed. I might try to pawn off the basket and get one more to my liking.

That's actually true. I've had a lot a people contact me wanting to build just the basket as the consensus is that everyone likes the SD ladder, but not the shopping cart on top. Maybe some styling cues for SD in the future. I recall ECR saying SD may start making his design.

Nope, the soft top slides right through it.

UPDATE: I changed the design of the rear ladder around the license plate. Here's what the new ladder looks like.

Oh, and it's still for sale!
